I don't normally comment on recalls but this one is irritating me. Smuckers, the parent company, refuses to use the word recall, this is a voluntary withdrawal - let's play with words, huh? The investigation has devolved to one provider and it ain't our fault is about the context I've seen. Their attitude says a lot to me about the company ... _________________ “Properly trained, a man can be dog’s best friend.” Corey Ford . |

| Thank you for the info. I think parent company is semantics for monopoly, anyway. What do they really care about pets? Profit is all it's about. Which is why some FDA regulation is necessary. If they are policing their own products, how do they make it out the door with contaminants? |

| It seems everyone has woken up from the lull of awkward no recalls forever and now throwing them all out at once. I am saddened by how many "Good" brands are showing up in these recent batches of recalls. Aside from the Smuckers recall most of the recent recalls are what one would usually consider quality brands. _________________ |

| Darwin's has recalled more of its dog food ( Natural Selections and ZooLogics Dog Foods) after more tests showed samples of it were contaminated. This is just the latest in a string of recalls for Darwin's — and the FDA has grown so concerned about it that it has published a blistering report chronicling all the troubles. The FDA says Darwin's has demonstrated a "pattern of contamination" and "a history of recalls and multiple complaints." OUCH. Here's what you need to know: Petful Website -or- The FDA Website -or- Dog Food Advisor Note this comes from the first paragraph of the FDA Announcement: - FDA wrote:
- The FDA is alerting pet owners to a history of five recalls of and multiple complaints associated with Darwin’s Natural Selections and Darwin's ZooLogics pet foods, manufactured by Arrow Reliance Inc., dba Darwin’s Natural Pet Products, over the period from October 17, 2016 to March 26, 2018. In each instance, the company recalled these products after being alerted to positive findings of Shiga toxin-producing E. coli O128, Salmonella and/or Listeria monocytogenes in samples of their raw pet food products.
Since July of 2016, Darwin's has recalled 13 different products! _________________ “Properly trained, a man can be dog’s best friend.” Corey Ford . |

| Al, any idea if these recent recalls are an additional or added to the original recall? I know VE had a recall, seen up towards the top of the page. It seems like every year about this time the freeze dried/raw dog food companies get a slew of recalls, salmonella is the culprit, but just seems odd, like if these were tested in the fall if the same issue would appear. Kinda stinks, I had been looking for a complete and balanced food that is more meat VE fit that bill, for when Miya goes off food, and now I wont buy it. Glad I decided to take my time on looking for a food, was going to place an order over the weekend and was going to place an order today, and now I wont. |

| VE has had in the neighborhood of three different recall this year, already. I also, find it interestingly odd that different companies producing the same type of food have the same problem at the same time ... _________________ “Properly trained, a man can be dog’s best friend.” Corey Ford . |

| DogFoodAdvisor was 'late' with their notification regarding both the TruPet and VE recalls.
I've updated the TruPet recall notice (Posted on 04/16) with information from FoodSafetyNews that states that both products were "manufactured in the same production facility, which is registered with the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS). Foods produced there carry Establishment No. V27506A or V27506. The production plant belongs to Carnivore Meat Co., which is based in Green Bay, WI."
I guess that explains the rationale for my comment in the previous message.
ETA: 04/20/2018 Updated again the two most recent recalls. _________________ “Properly trained, a man can be dog’s best friend.” Corey Ford . |

| In light of the recent recall of Steve's I sent them the following message: - Quote :
- :I post recall notices for a Husky forum of which I'm a member - and if you don't mind a curiosity question ... In this day of "transparency" why is it that you (and most other dog food manufacturers) don't let your customers know on their website that there's been a recall?
Admitted that there's the "Oh, they've recalled a lot, I don't want to buy from them!" reaction, but isn't it really more fair to your existing customers to let them know that one of your products *might* have a problem, hence the recall.
They then posted the following on their website: - Quote :
Voluntary Recall On Friday, September 7th, we announced the to FDA that we would do a voluntary recall on three lots of food. The food was pulled by the WA Department of Agriculture. They ran a series of tests and were able to get three samples to test positive for pathogens. We have multiple tests done on the same lots that all show negative tests results in addition to environmental tests that were done on the date the food was produced that have negative results. However, to be compliant we have issued the voluntary recall of the following products:
Product Name Lot# UPC Best Buy Date Steve’s Real Food Turducken Recipe/5# J155 6-91730-15304-5 6/4/19 Quest Emu Diet B138 6-91730-17103-2 8/18/19 Quest Beef Diet A138 6-91730-17101-8 8/18/19 If you are a consumer and have any of the affected product please return it to the retailer you bought it from. They will verify the Lot Code and issue a refund for the affected product.
Food safety is a priority of our and have already been to the plant to review manufacturing processes and discuss what more we can to minimize pathogen exposure. We will keep you posted on the changes we implement to improve our process.
