| Midwestern Pet Food has updated its recent recall of multiple brands of dog and cat food... due to deadly levels of aflatoxin. The brands include:
- Sportmix
- Pro Pac Originals
- Splash
- Sportstrail
- Nunn Better
As of January 21, the FDA is aware of more than 110 deaths and 210 illnesses in pets who consumed the defective food. The new report indicates the contaminated products were distributed in 35 other countries... including the United States. | 110 deaths is nuts. This recall hits a bit close to home since my friend used to feed ProPac all the time. It hasn't been too terribly long since she switched. May have done so just in time. _________________ |

| Two weeks ago, I alerted you to a recall of Performance Dog, a raw pet food made by a company called Bravo Packing, Inc. And now? That recall is being expanded to include every single pet food and bone made by this company, because of potential contamination or cross-contamination with salmonella and listeria (dangerous bacteria).
I have lots of information I've written at the link below, including why all packages are affected rather than just certain ones.
Get the full details on this recall at the following link:
Petful Notice
NB: Be aware that Bravo and Performance are used by other companies. _________________ “Properly trained, a man can be dog’s best friend.” Corey Ford . |

The company says it's merely a quality control issue and that this is not a recall. But customers are reporting dogs sickened by mold in the treats. That's not minor. | Now, here we are again with another aflatoxin-related recall of Sunshine Mills dog food brands. Aflatoxin is a natural poison produced by the overgrowth of mold typically found on spoiled corn. This time, the recalled products include certain packages of Triumph, Evolve, Wild Harvest, Nurture Farms, Heart to Tail Pure Being and Elm.
Only certain types, sizes, lot codes and dates are part of the recall.

| (( Yikes, two in one day !!!! )) The massively popular Pup-Peroni dog treat line is apparently facing its first recall (involving one specific flavor). For several months now, customers have been posting photos of moldy Pup-Peroni treats — and now at least one flavor, Original Beef, is being recalled. I was unable to contact Big Heart Pet for details before their offices closed for the weekend, but I verified the news through an announcement on a grocery store chain’s website. As far as I know, only the Original Beef Flavor is part of the recall. You can get full details at the link below, as well as some of the photos of moldy treats that customers have posted this year: Petful Link Nothing on the FDA site as of yet. _________________ “Properly trained, a man can be dog’s best friend.” Corey Ford . |

| The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has issued an important warning to Midwestern Pet Foods after inspections of its facilities revealed serious safety violations. The company makes at least 12 dog and cat food brands at its plants. The FDA found conditions at the company's facilities likely contributed to the illness or death of hundreds of dogs. See the following links for more information: DogFoodAdvisor Notice -or- FDA Notice <My comment> Aflotoxin, mycotoxin and Salmonella ... and they're still making dog food??????? The FDS was not nice in their letter, see the FDA link above. A quick and partial list of brands affected:

| Petful sent out this recall this morning and apparently he'd been enjoying a bit too much of the Maker's Mark product line.
Sam's Club is recalling packages of a brand of dog treats that may contain pieces of metal. The dog treats are Maker's Mark Beef Sticks.
You can get the full details of this Maker's Mark Beef Sticks Dog Treats recall at the link below:
Petful
which was followed up shortly by a correction:
Good morning. I apologize for resending this, but it corrects the brand name that is involved in the recall. The name of the affected treats is Member's Mark.
(Not Maker's Mark, which is, well, something entirely different and not for dogs at all.) —Dave
All recalls should be as amusing as this one was. //al
