| Do huskies grow extremely slow? Shiloh is 6 months old and only about 31 or 32 pounds and still so short! At what ages do they have growth spurts? I know it's no comparison whatsoever but my malamute Khuma was HUGE at 6 months. Shiloh doesn't seem to have grown much since we brought her home 2 months ago, only really having grown 10 or so pounds. Ranger wasn't a little puppy when we brought him home. He was a malnourished juvenile around 10 months weighing in at 37 pounds and now hovers around 55-60, so I can't use him as a comparison either. She's definitely not too skinny or anything like that, she's got the perfect amount of meat over her ribs. She's very fluffy though so she looks much bigger than she actually is. Since I haven't posted any recent pics here's a couple of her I just took of her sitting under my desk as I type this. And she's filthy, just cannot keep her clean, she loves mud, loves dirt, ALWAYS a dirty girl. Give her a bath and she runs out and flops down in the dirt! Sorry I know, lame, 4 pictures just about exactly the same |

| OMG SHE IS SO CUTE! Is that an agouti coloring?? Huskies have high and low periods of growth. They grow rather steadily (not fast or slow, just steady) until about 7-10 months. Then they seem to level off for a while until about 15-18 months when they hit another major growth spurt. Then they'll hit their adult height at the end of that spurt, but continue to fill out until they are 2 years old, sometimes even as late as 3. We've had this conversation on several forums, and this seems to be the general consensus Hope it helps! _________________ www.itsahuskything.com It's a husky thing... you wouldn't understand. |

| She is so freaking CUTE!!!!
Sierra was 6 when we got her so all we had to do was get weight off of her and that's a hard thing to do! Jack's age was guessed to be about a year to 1.5yrs when we got him. he was super skinny and, he did not really start to fill out till we had him for a year, so that also helped us know he was mostly still under or around 2, he was in the mid 40's for some time and just this past yr he has stayed at 56lbs! so we know he is done growing and filling and now we are on maintenance weight now for both of ours. i would say she is fine right now and you will see another growth from her before she is 2yrs. just don't start feeding her to get her to grow, getting weight off is something you don't want to have to do.
were her parents short? and by short have you measured her? females are shorter then males so she might be right on track... _________________ |

| The first picture I saw of her I thought she was agouti, but as I've done alot of reading about agouti, it has been determined that she is not agouti. From what I've read, agouti requires the hairs to be banded in appearance and hers isn't really like that, it is in some areas, like there's some black on her legs and if you look at it closely it's black/cream/black. Here are some of the first pictures I saw of her: She's the one on the bottom, just her head showing Bottom again, LOL She has lightened up ALOT She has a ton of cream coloring and her undercoat is confusing, it looks black but is a combination of black and cream all the way down to her skin. The cream on her head is just cream colored down to the skin. Then she has black guard hairs throughout and some black and white patches here and there, mainly on her chest but also her belly and legs. I'm so confused as to her color that I still haven't sent her AKC papers in yet! |

| Omg, Shiloh is ADORABLE!!! She's so fluffy! Seems like such a happy happy girl (even if she's full of dirt..lol).
If that's the case then Kody is going to be big! He's already taller than Mya and at his last weigh in was at 42lbs. He was about 7 months then (now about to be 9months). He's super skinny though even though he eats a lot! |

| I agree with Tori for the most part.
Who knows she might even stay small which could be another explanation for the slower growth. The breed standard for females is 35 - 50 lbs and she's almost reached the lower end of the spectrum. For all anyone knows she might top out at 35 lbs, you'll just have to wait and see. And shorter females are normal also, I met a gorgeous show female at Petsmart one day and she looked like a dwarf next to my male. lol But she was perfectly normal and at the lower end of the breed standard in height and weight.
As much as I love my boy, I would love to have a petite full grown 35 lb female, it would be so much easier to handle and travel with! _________________ |

He's now a full-grown 60 lb male standing tall at about 23.5" (TOP of the standard for a male, but still considered standard). Just thought I'd share if you wanted something to compare to - HuskyLuv wrote:

| I'm in the process of uploading some more pictures. I got a quick measurement, which isn't easy when the puppy is extremely interested in what the tape measure and ruler are but I got a reading of about 20" |

| Autumn, breed standard for females in height are 20 - 22 inches so she should be done or almost done growing height wise. See? She's normal! _________________ |

| Being so small, will she still be able to pull a sled with the team when she fills out? I don't have a measurement on her parents but I did get to see them and they seemed largish to me. |

The standards were developed because those are the ideal characteristics required of a dog to perform their breed's primary purpose most efficiently. Seeing as how huskies are bred to pull sleds, I think she'll be fine _________________ www.itsahuskything.com It's a husky thing... you wouldn't understand. |

| Hmm, maybe she's a sable. What did her breeder have her down as? If they didn't give you a color I would talk to another experienced breeder and get their opinion on her color.
She should be able to pull a sled recreationally just fine, assuming she has no health/medical concerns. _________________

Her coat is a lot like Koda's. It's hard to tell right now because she still has so much puppy fur. However, that being said, Koda's hair is banded.... thus, with her coloring, I would say agouti. But I defer to those with a bit more breeding experience than I _________________ www.itsahuskything.com It's a husky thing... you wouldn't understand. |

| LOL unfortunately her breeder had no clue either, he's just as stumped as I am, has never seen a puppy like her. Her mother is a piebald and her father is a grey and white. |

| Also you need to look at the guard hairs for the banding, not the undercoat. If you look at my boy's guard hairs, some have banding and some don't.
Both sables and agoutis can lighten as they age. Agoutis can also darken back up some after they've lightened. My first guess with her would still be agouti, maybe sable if not agouti but I would look to another experienced breeder to be sure. _________________ |

| She really doesn't have much in the way of guard hair, I can't even describe her coat, she's soft and fluffy and does not at all have the guard hair that I have seen on normal sibes her age, she is pretty much just all fluffy hair, think angora bunny kind of fluffy and that soft too.The hairs that I see that I would call guard hair are black and are white at the skin end. |
