feeding something other than kibble Empty
PostSubject: feeding something other than kibble   feeding something other than kibble EmptyMon Jan 05, 2015 2:54 am

I was thinking about adding some other food into bandits diet. She just a week over 6 months old and I want to feed her some meat or any other kind of food. I've been searching and it seems almost everyone has different things they feed their dogs. What's good to feed other than raw? What do you guys suggest. I don't want to take the kibble out completely but maybe occasionally feed her something like chicken?

Feeding raw is more beneficial to you dog. However if you wish to feed her boiled chicken, that's fine, just no cooked bones....You can also cook up hamburger or turkey burger and mix in her kibble, benefits are the fat and protein. Again no cooked bones, and if you want to mix into kibble cooked only, raw feeding needs to be separate from kibble, since digestion is different between raw and kibble. Also be watchful on her weight, adding meats will put weight on, so you may find you need to decrease the amount of kibble, so she doesn't become overweight.

Tony, so you are wishing to feed raw? It's very beneficial nutrient wise. You can go in many directions. They make raw for dogs, I personally have just done it myself. I buy human grade meat, or in honesty I buy extra so some for my husband and myself and a little more for Miya. The raw feed section here is a valuable guide, and you can feel free to ask more questions. I find it cheaper and easier to buy a little extra meat to give my girl than it is to buy premade raw dog food.

Tony, so you are interested in feeding partial raw? There are some excellent threads on the raw feed section of the forum. They do make raw dog food, I personally do it myself. So when I shop for us humans I buy extra for Miya......You could try a drumstick and thigh raw for Bandit, feed about 6 to 8 hours from the kibble. I recommend the drumstick and thigh since it is a larger bone in compared to breast. Here in Texas they have sales for 10 pounds for $5, and would feed her for quite awhile. I don't recommend feeding only chicken, but it is a start. My computer is having problems, so sorry if this is technically the same reply.
