| So, I am sorry if this is going to be long winded... my thought processes can be hard to follow, so bare with me.
At least three days before Thanksgiving Okami puked 3 days in a row up to Thanksgiving... if that made sense. The vomit was yellow- so I am thinking stomach acid/empty stomach.
Then from the day before Thanksgiving is when she started refusing to eat. Now she isn't pooping, or at least if she does it is a tiny amount at best.
There are a terrible amount of things that could be going on. Blockage, bloat-however she burps when she drinks water so idk, teeth issues? Maybe something is hurting so she doesn't want to chew... , or ir could just be a strike against her food, because she will still eat treats, I gave her some turkey and she ate that. But she is just acting miserable, and the vomit worries me.
So tomorrow we are going to the vet. I was just hoping anyone might have some peace of mind, or can at least tell me what to expect. |

| Could the poop thing be because she's not eating as much? I hope so. I don't have advice, I just hope its nothing serious and Okami gets better SOON. |

| I would be more apt to lean toward blockage but by no means would I put money on it. You might give her some olive oil and see if that grease the wheels, per se. If there is something that may help loosen it up. Keep us updated on what the vet says. I hope she gets to feeling better soon. _________________ |

| Pumpkin helped loosen Bode up when he hadn't pooped in 4 days. Hope everything is ok! |

| It sounds like it could be a blockage, or it could be something utterly stupid. Good luck and keep us posted! |

| I second trying some olive or mineral oil. Also, feel around her tummy and abdominal tract seeing if she has any tenderness. monitor her temperature with a thermometer twice daily. An infection will drive it up and you may want to seek care earlier than tomorrow. Hydration is biggie, note the color of her gum line then press finger against it and then release and notice how long it takes to return to the previous color. The longer it takes the more dehydrated she is. If she is dehydrated check with your vet or ER care and see if they feel starting an I.V. may be needed. I hope this helpful. |

| Oh gosh, I really hope it's not but that sounds just like a blockage. Any updates today? I'll be sending good vibes and hoping for good news, and I really REALLY hope you don't have to go through what we did a couple months ago _________________ Shadow's Blog Canine Hydrocephalus Support on Facebook "Being the parent of a special-needs pet means living your life constantly poised on the edge of a double-edged sword. | Okay so I just got home. $630.00 and 6 hours later. The x-rays came out clean I will provide the pictures. They may be a little small They said that there is a bit of a gas build up that is what is causing her some pain, They were worried she had Pancreatic issues... all the blood work came back, and that was fine. So they determined her to have Gastroenteritis, which is an inflammation of the stomach. They gave me some scripts for her : Metronidazole and Sucralfate. Says they may cause Foaming/spitting and/or GI upset. I don't know if they forgot to give me a medicine, because there is a third one on the discharge papers, but I only have 2 meds ? They also gave her some shots to help her increase her appetite, and gave her some sort of hydration shot (her back is REALLY buldgey, they said it would go down in a few hours. So here is my discharge instructions: Bland diet for 5 days I am not allowed to play with her, and there is no "loud" noises allowed (no idea why though they didn't explain) for 2 days and I have to watch for more vomiting, diarrhea (which hasn't happened yet) Lethargy, or loss of appitite( which she already has) and if something changes within that list over 12-24 hours I have to go back. |

| Oh and they told me I have to make Okami loose 5 pounds.... Whatever. The Vet was like, "She has some cushion and could stand to loose some weight." Don't most vets say that about huskies though? I'm like, I walk her, bike her, and feed her a strict diet, if she has some cushion, God intended her to be a little "husky" |

Yeah basically what they told me, is that they can not find anything wrong with her other than a gas build up, but over time something may present itself. So that was their way of saying they have no f***ing idea what is wrong with her or why she wouldn't eat |

| I called the Evet.. they said with the meds the gave her, it would be normal for her to cry. And about the third medicine, apparently it is something I am supposed to pick up at the drug store. |

| I'm glad she doesnt have a blockage. The side effects of the meds though pretty much suck...there isn't anything *natural* you could give her that would relieve the gas build-up and discomfort without these awful side effects? |

| Aww. Poor Okami. I hope she starts to feel better soon. I'm surprised they didn't tell you you more about the medicine and that you had to pick it up from the drug store. _________________ |

| So, last night she pretty much cried from 6PM till around midnight before she finally fell asleep.
This morning, she was still being very SLLLLLOOOOOWWWWW, which is unlike her. But after she did her business she trotted away, which was a normal behavior, and then she was acting interested in the neighbors again, which is great. Now she is just patiently waiting in her crate while I get my kid ready for school, I am currently defrosting some beef to make her a bland breakfast to give her her meds. Hopefully I see some more of her personality come back today. |

| What was the third med? The metronidazole is an antibiotic that's used mostly for stomach/GI issues (we use it on pretty much every parvo puppy, for instance) and sucralfate coats the tummy to help with ulcers. And the hydration shot is just subq fluids given under the skin for her to absorb as she needs to I've never had issues with mine where they have gas so extreme that it goes on for several days and causes lack of appetite, but for what its worth, if anyone is gassy, I use fennel seeds. Ava is 45# and gets a pinch, like 5-8 seeds, mixed into her dinner and poof, no more doggy farts. Bone broth is something that is super easy to make and super nutritious. If she's drinking some now, I would give it a shot. I don't think it could hurt and would certainly fit into her bland diet. You can take some sort of bony meat, cover with water in a crock pot, add a little bit of apple cider vinegar or lemon juice, boil on high for an hour, then reduce to low and let it go for a day or so. Strain the bones out before you give it. Hope she feels better! |

| Lucy it sounds like you might be on the mend which is good too hear. I am also surprise that they were not more informative but glad you got some relief. Myndi thanks for the fennel seed info, sounds like you do not crush it or anything? I might have to try that some time with my Baylin I know she is gasey and allergic to soybean oil which I keep her away from but somedays?????? I have to do the bone broth the next time I have a leftover bone!!!
hang in there Okami

| Colleen - I suppose you could crush the fennel, but I never have. It would probably work the same. I keep a tin of it around just to deal with doggy farts - otherwise I can't stand fennel. And I've used it myself a time or two I've also used it a time or two when her belly has just felt tight, before the onset of doggy farts. Last week on Tuesday and Wednesday the pups had their "thanksgiving" consisting of tripe and chickenbacks and whew. I've never ever had them get gassy from tripe before - I think it was because this time I couldn't find the tripette brand and bought something with added potatoes and stuff in it. But if you think tripe smells bad when it goes in.....It was horrible!! You could smell tripey dog farts when you walked in my front door. A pinch of fennel on Wednesday's dinner and we had no more issues and I could breathe easy in my living room again. |

| Lucy that sound similar to what they did when Bourbon got acid reflux from eating a vole! He had and upset stomach and a yak reflex motion going on. He was better after 48 hours I think the pepcid worked the best! |
