Hi guys, I hope everyone and their doggies are doing well. Since we got home from the dog park last night, our Loki has started drooling way more than usual. The drool is think kinda like when he is waiting for his food. He is active and acting very normal. Last night we took him to the dog park and for the first time he engaged in social play with another dog, each of them were wrestling with one another and playing the dominant submissive roles. It is the most physically active he has ever been, and it was a lot of mental and physical stimulation. The drooling started about 3 hours after we got back. Any ideas what could be going on? The dog trainer we work with told us he thinks he is just over exhausted and maybe feeling a little stressed from last night, and that we shouldn't worry too much. I am trying to stay calm as I worry very easily but it just seems strange to me and I am trying to tell myself its no big deal...Thoughts? Sophia and Loki the puppy!

He's probably fine, but definitely keep an eye on him. If his energy level drops, if he has any stomach upset or any changes in peeing and pooping take him to the vet. Excess drooling can be a symptom for some pretty dangerous things, like toxicity.

That type of hyper stimulation can cause drooling. Mine recently caught his first rodent and he was profusely drooling.

Thanks for the input guys. I guess the reason I am super worried is that he still drooling this morning...so I got more nervous than I was before. He hasn't eaten anything unusual and is acting normal, he is playing with his little soccer ball this morning AND he was pulling a lot on this mornings walk so he definitely isn't lethargic......I will watch him closely and keep you posted!

I agree - have you checked his mouth for any cuts or foreign bodies in the gum/tooth pockets? If not, I might give a call to the vet.

If any of the dogs he was playing with, and potentially chewing on their necks or grabbing at their backs, were treated with a topical flea and tick treatment like frontline or such, he could be having an allergic reaction to it. Some dogs are a little more sensitive to the stuff that people goo all down their dogs backs for bugs. _________________
