First off this is my pit mix not Simon but I know a lot of our advice isn't really "husky" advice it's actually just "dog" advice so I figured it wouldn't hurt to ask.
So here is what has happened. Sadie my just turned 5 pit mix has started developing house training issues. Before the past few months the only time she had an accident is if A. She was sick or B. she had been whining at us for 30 minutes or more and just gave up. Neither of those happened often so it really was kind of a one off situation. In that time we fostered Maya who had a lot of accidents in the beginning and got Simon as a pup and she had no issues. Recently she has also started counter surfing also not something she did before and has eaten a bag of bagels and a loaf of bread. We know it was her and not Simon because he is kenneled when we are out of the house while she (because she didn't have any issues) is not.

Now the big change that I can see is that my boyfriend spend almost three months unemployed and then a few months ago he got a job. Her first accident was a few days later. My theory is that she got used to getting to go out whenever she wanted and had forgotten (and we had forgotten to make her) to go before we both left for work. I think this caused the first two and now she just has it in her head that it's not a big deal to go in the house. She hates going out in the cold and winter is coming. I just wanted to see if you guys agreed or if you thought there might be an other cause. I had a friend who is kind of against intact animals say that she thought it was because Simon is growing up or something.

Also have taken her to the vet he said that she was healthy and because it was pooping and peeing he didn't think here was a medical problem.

What we have been doing after we talked to the vet is we are kind of treating her like a puppy again instead of letting her out just when she wants to letting her out every few hours. And she seams to get that she has to go potty to come back in and we haven't had any more issues. We are also making her stay in the same room as us so she can't wander off and go. She is up to date on her shots again so I am bringing her to work with me so she don't have much alone time. We are also slowly working on making the crate a good space but she was crated way to much before we got her so we have to counter condition that so I am going slow.

I know long post but it is the kind of weird thing I am dealing with right now.

Elise, I think you answered your own question. Dogs in general get used to schedules. Her schedule changed, and starting with the puppy retrain potty breaks is a good strategy. Taking her to work with you can only help as well. Out of curiosity I know Simon hasn't been fixed, but Sadie hasn't as well? Your friends theory may be correct, to a certain extent. I am not familiar personally to multi dog homes, so I am of no help in that except to say your friend may be right. Good luck with Sadie, she is such a unique looking pitt.

My apologizes, I don't think that would be an issue then, but again I don't have a multi dog home. Someone else may have an answer to your friends theory. I still think it's the schedule change of your boyfriend now working. Again good luck and I love your new avatar.

Thanks Simon is looking so big but he is still not as big as his big sister. And I am hoping I am right but I just don't have that many years dog experience under my belt.
