| Since I don't know where to post this and I'm not sure if this is a medical question, I'm posting this here. First off I'm in the process of looking for a new vet, the ones we are currently are using thinks that Miya is just a dumb, bothersome, pain in the rear dog. They don't have time to get to know us or Miya. So for me to ask this question would be fruitless.
Miya goes to bed about 10 or 11 pm every night, I stay up until 1 ish. Most nights around midnight Miya will get up off her bed and walks out to the kitchen, she looks at me, turns around goes back to her bed and is completely sound asleep. This is in duration of a minute or two. In order to not wake my husband, I trained Miya to come using my pointing finger and do the come here wiggle(makes sense?), when she is fully awake she comes over, when she's "sleep walking" she acts as if she doesn't see me. Is she just ignoring me? Checking on the house? Or is she sleep walking? Do I need to be concerned? The only other odd behavior, if you will, I have seen her continually swallow, she does this awake, but have seen her do this while sleeping as well. Any ideas on what's going on? Should I take her to the vet, or is this normal? The swallowing thing doesn't happen too often, but the sleep walking is almost every night. Any help would be very much appreciated. |

| Well, it doesn't sound like anything concerning to me. I also wouldn't really call it sleep walking. To me it kinda sounds like she's awake, but not really coherent... Kinda how I feel every morning when my alarm goes off. Or maybe like a kid that wakes up for a glass of water, but doesn't remember it. Honestly though, I don't think there's anything wrong. Do you leave water out for her at night? She might be thirsty, especially the swallowing thing. I leave water out for Diz all the time, and I've heard him wake up at night to get a drink. I've also seen Diz do some weird swallowing/mouth things while dreaming. I would chalk it up to her checking out what you're up to, deciding it's boring, and going back to sleep. I wouldn't take her to the vet unless she seems erratic in terms of control of her body. I'm betting sleepy husky. Also, my first husky, Tasha, she used to get upset with me if I stayed up too late. She would want to go to bed and come out and look at me and then go in her crate. If I didn't come soon enough, she'd start whining. The thing I've noticed about huskies, is that they go through phases throughout their entire lives. For a while they do one thing, then pretty soon, something else. Just keeping us on our toes. |

| Also, I joke that they do it to make us pay a bunch of money for a vet to prove we still love them... |

| Haha Jen, too funny. Thank you for putting my mind at ease. She has access to water, although she's a tub girl, loves the flow and the height of the bathtub, she'll stand there and stare me down until I turn it on. At night there's a bowl of water for her and kitty. I'm with her 24/7/365, and she never sleep walks during the day, only at night, that's why I was concerned. I will chalk it up to her wanting me to turn the lights off, go to bed so we can have another exciting husky day. Thank you again, you made me feel way better. Renee |

| My 8 week old puppy, Hanzo, will get up and walk in a couple of circles then lay down, or he will move from the bottom of the bed to above my head. Does this all the time, not quite sure if it is sleep walking or if he just isn't comfortable. So I know what you mean (: |

| I've grown quite used to this, ha. She does it every night, walks out stares at me and turns around heads back to her bed. I truly believe it's her way of telling me it's time for bed. In fact the old senile cat I have does something similar, she comes out does a huge howl and then runs back under the bed, she is way more persistent, she'll do that every 15 minutes or so, Miya once, sometimes twice a night. They are funny. |

| Our puppy will wake up at 4 to go potty then when we come back inside he will start chewing on the blanket and my hair then he will go to sleep after about 20 minutes. But that is the only time he would wake up on most nights. |

| I agree with Jen, it doesn't seem like anything to worry about. It actually sounds like she's checking to see if you are still there. Since you go to bed late after her. She may be getting up to see if you are still sitting there. and when she see's you are...she say's "ok...i'll go back to bed now"! |
