Adopted 2 yr old female husky peeing on our beds Empty
PostSubject: Adopted 2 yr old female husky peeing on our beds   Adopted 2 yr old female husky peeing on our beds EmptyFri Sep 12, 2014 10:28 am

We recently adopted a 2 year old spayed female husky (Marley) as a companion for our nearly 2 year old neutered male husky, Ice. We took her for a full checkup with the vet and everything is okay, no pressing health concerns. She's sweet as can be, plays great with Ice and our kids.

The problem is she is sneaking into bedrooms and peeing on beds. She had a couple of accidents on the floor in the first week we got her, but this seems like something different. She has ample outside time, we both work at home so every hour or so they go outside for some play, barking at the neighbor dogs, etc.

Trying to figure out the best way to combat this. We've been shutting bedroom doors but last night in just a few minutes of our bedroom being open and unattended she hit our bed. It's strange that she would pee there as it's a place she likes to hang out and cuddle with us.

Is this a territory thing, where she's trying to designate places as "hers" in defiance of Ice's more dominant personality? How do we stop this?

I have no answers but my first husky, Sasha, did this a few times - always when we left her alone...we took it as a F### You! My son's cat did the same thing to them about 2 months ago - again, she was being left alone a lot at that time.

That wouldn't be it - we're almost always home, and when we're not home (and at night) both dogs are crated.

How long ago was she spayed? My girl has an incorrect spay. Some tissue was left behind and due to it she still has hormonal cycles and even a full bloody heat cycle even though she can't get pregnant. During one of these cycles she will nest. Her last cycle she would nest under our porch. Every time she would go outside she would stuff herself under the porch and scratch out a nest and sometime even pee in it and attempt to take her toys to it. A lady I work with had an unspayed great dane that would also go through false pregnancies and during the false pregnancy she would try to dig at their bed and couch and pee on the covers. That's just one little more long shot possibility to her behavior.

You might try tethering her to you anytime that she will have access to the bed so that if she goes to do this you can correct her before she can, also so that she can't sneak in there. Also invest in natures miracle to spray the mattress down with to get rid of any lingering scent mark that might get through to the mattress that isn't as easily washed away as the marks on the sheets.

I sort of agree with Amy. My pup, Light, used to keep peeing in my brother's room whenever she had the chance. I like to believe that sometimes, they associate certain people as 'bad' and since they can't necessarily fight back (if... you have a good tempered dog), they passive-aggressively pee where they can.  lol! My brother was pretty tough petting and playing with her. As to how we fixed it, we associated peeing outside and we had my brother treat her differently, less intense rubbing. It more or less worked since she doesn't really pee there anymore.

On a more serious note, its possible that a lot of a previous scent marking was placed on your bed so... she probably thinks that spot is a toilet... No

We must have impressed her with how ticked off we were about the bed. She hasn't made any attempt to jump up there even when Ice is up there getting cuddles from his momma.
