Kenzi is kind of a hormonal mess. She is spayed, though incorrectly, and still cycles and has false pregnancies though can't get pregnant. The vet is hesitant to go in and try to fix her spay since it is expensive and could actually hurt more than help depending on how deep they have to dig in her to find the problem, so we've been living with the fluctuations. Every few months she just becomes a big bawl baby. Mothers and cries over one toy in particular, cries if my husband kisses or hugs me, cries if anything peeps, sometimes I think she cries because she can hear herself crying. My question is, is there anything I can give her to help with the hormonal fluctuations? A supplement that might bring her a little balance? It drives us nuts and I'm sure being an emotional mess isn't fun for her either.

Jenn, I too have problems with Miya going into heat, although not as serious as Kenzi. I'm assuming it's because Miya is younger and as she ages she will have problems like your Kenzi. I read an article when she went into heat the last time, and I'll be darned I can not find it. It gave alternate treatments, since I do not want to put her under again and do another surgery. It's frustrating, the idiot vet admitted they found only one ovary and that the second may drop, but she wont get pregnant, but may show signs of heat. I have the receipt to prove this and they insisted on spaying at 5 months. I will do more digging and see if I can find the article, in the meantime, I was hoping someone else here had similar problems, there are so many members here I can't believe that it's just the 2 of us with the problem? Any one else that can suggest an alternative to a re-spay I'm sure Jenn and I would be grateful.

A lady that I worked for had a wee bichon like this and she was a PIA since she would come to work all the time. What really helped was Melatonin. It naturally lowers the estrogen levels (they commonly use it for menopausal women lol) so keeps females experiencing issues as a more constant level. May be worth looking into for Kenzi and Miya

Awesome! Thanks for the tip. The only experience with melatonin I have is using it to sleep. Do you know about how much to give? I have some human grade at home if that's okay and dogs don't need some special kind.

This is where she got her dogs melatonin with a Bichon she was using the 1mg dosage but for dogs over 30lbs it's the 3mg dose.

The stuff I have at home is enough to knock out a horse (used it to knock out my 6' 7" husband) so I will get something lower. Thanks!
