Hi all AS you know it still says Colorado but we moved to Washington recently and i was going to ask from you WA people about how much you spend per month in food, Lucifer eats VERY little and a bag of food for 40 bucks can last 2-3 months so 40 in two to three months, I'd be willing to spend more once i got stable since so many dog food recalls have made me paranoid

Doesn't matter where you live, cost is going to vary for people even living in the same state or nearby city. There are so many factors from supplier to whether or not you can buy in bulk to how much food an individual dog consumes. I would expect your feeding cost to more than double. Feeding raw costs me about $1/day when averaged out. My boy eats 1 lb a day. I can easily buy meat in bulk at 50 to 99 cents a pound, but I get hit on the organ which at best I can get for $1.50/lb. So when it's all factored in and averaged out, I get away with paying $1/lb and since he eats 1 lb/day, that equates to $30/month give or take.

Kibble is a bit cheaper for me, I can spend $40 on a 35 lb bag of food that lasts me about 2.5 months. So that calculates down to $16 month for kibble, half the cost of feeding raw but far worse for their health.

Ultimately it doesn't matter what others in WA pay, your costs probably won't match theirs. I strongly suggest finding a co-op and finding out food prices for what you intend to buy and in the amounts you intend to purchase to get the most accurate budgetary info. After all, it won't matter if person X can get 100 lbs of beef at $1/lb if you are only able to purchase 25 lbs at a time at a higher rate of $2/lb.

This is true, I'm just so upset with all the recent dog food recalls, even though i don't buy name brands D= I love my baby so much and it makes me feel bad to keep giving him kibble since i know what CAN go into it )(yuck)

I was feeding kibble until I felt that raw sounded like a better diet for my dogs, plus we were dealing with potential allergies, etc. I tried switching to raw after moving to Portland, OR, but after 10 months, and adding our 3rd large dog, my wife and I realized it was going to cost us $10,000 over the next 3 years. That's when I was forced to switch them back to kibble. We were feeding the higher end, grain-free kibbles like Orijen, Acana, Innova EVO and Wellness CORE, and the dogs did great on these, but they had little to no desire to eat kibble after being exclusively raw fed. My heart broke for them. I knew I needed to figure out a way to switch back to raw, if only I could find a way to feed it cheaper than kibble. I did the math, and it was costing me $1.88/lb to feed kibble. So that was the number I went with when researching bulk raw meat. I was then told about various local co-ops and yahoo groups like this one:

I joined them, and would only participate in orders that would cost me less than $1.88 per lb. I made it work, and finally switched all my dogs back to raw. They've been on raw for 4 years straight now, and we won't go back to kibble again since I was able to figure out the money saving end of feeding raw. I've also found local bulk meat distributors that sell to the public, but mainly supply the local restaurants with human grade meats. These are another source of cheap raw meat in bulk. I did have to buy a stand-up freezer to store all of the bulk meat, and another small fridge to thaw it out since we're vegan and don't want meat in our main fridge. But we found a way to make it work, and the dogs are certainly happier being on raw than they were on kibble. It was so sad to see them sniff their bowls and just walk away. They've never walked away from any raw meal.
