| Our puppy is 5 months, from the very beginning that whe had her she liked to dig in the dirt. In the beginning it wasn't a problem but lately she starts digging in the middle of our grass. For the moment whe have 2 pits in the garden and i don't know how to get lost of the annoying behavior.
Is their anyone that knows what to do with it? |

| Give Chiva her own spot to dig, when she digs in spot that is off limits firmly tell her No, then take her back to her spot and reward her for digging there. My girl's nick name is Miya Mud Paw, I know the problem. Good luck, she is beautiful. |

| It may also help to identify why she has moved to digging in the middle of the yard. Mine get after moles and can uproot the whole yard in a short time and frequently did so this spring, so I attacked the moles throwing out grub kill, getting beepers, and planting castor oil in runs. Once I got the moles killed off, or at least run to the neighbor's house their digging dropped astronomically and now my grass has come back, at least until dog days come and the lack of rain kills it all off again. _________________ |

| Jenn, We got 4.5 inches of rain overnight, yay! My husband is in Springfield, Mo this week. We don't have moles, as far as I know anyway, moles would have to compete with the Guinea hens my neighbor has, and our local Armadillo, for bugs. I think Miya is just a natural born digger, for no apparent reason. I've also have seen her pull up hunks of grass at my dismay and have to tell her No. Don't know why, but as the forum title says "Its a husky thing". Renee |

Renee First trip my wife took with me to Texas an Armadillo ran across the road and she asked what was that!? I said an Armadillo, she said those things are real I thought they were made up for cartoons! |

| Try making her a sandbox, hiding treats and toys in it and every time she starts to dig where she's not allowed, put her in the sandbox (preferably with a nice bone hidden for her) |

Tell your husband I am so sorry. I went to college in springfield and was never so happy as to get moved out of that place. Cheap living but the drivers are stupid. I wish Texas would have kept those armadillo. We have them up here now and for years never did. They can uproot a yard faster than a dog could even dream of it. A mutual friend of my dad's leaned over one and it jumped and broke some of the bones in his face. _________________ |

| Hughie, they are bad in west central Florida, where we used to live, but never saw one in person until we moved here. Our neighbor gives us unlimited access to her 400 acres in trade for killing them, the holes they dig is dangerous to her cattle. Amy, great suggestion. My redirection with Miya works, Chiva's owners, the original poster, may have it easier with your suggestion. Jenn, Yes he's sorry his company sent him there, corporate headquarters, no choice in the matter, he hates it there. Sent him to St. Louis back in the winter he had way more fun, but that was some kind of corporate conference, St. Louis was more equipped to handle the amount of people compared to Springfield. He'll be home late tomorrow or early Saturday. And Omg, they are nasty critters, never knew they could turn violent. That was the only way I could get her out to go potty last night, "Go get the armadillo", out she went and did her business. Renee |

| Their defense mechanism is to jump and all that armor makes them one heck of a ball to get hit with. They can really do a number on the underside of a car too if you straddle them and they jump as you go over. My old dog loves to kill them. Being part pitt, he has the teeth to tear the side out of them and does so on a regular basis. My parents have an armadillo graveyard where they throw the carcases. There are 3 or 4 buzzards that live in that spot year round. Big birds get so excited to see dad coming.
I second hiding stuff in the sand. Becomes a big puzzle toy. Just be prepared for the sand to travel far and wide. _________________ |
