Chuck has wanted breakfast less and less Empty
PostSubject: Chuck has wanted breakfast less and less   Chuck has wanted breakfast less and less EmptySat Jul 12, 2014 3:03 pm

Hey all, hope you're well.

Over the past 2 months or so Chuck has been eating less and less of his breakfast meal (taste of the wild stream, 1.25 cups per meal). This already seems to me to be on the lighter side of normal meal size so it concerns me a bit. He's lost a little weight, but he's still in the normal range as I think he was on the higher end of normal previously.

I did switch him to this food from the TOTW puppy plains about 2 months ago as well. I would think it would be obvious he simply doesnt like the food, but he ate it just fine when it started, and his desire to eat breakfast has slowed down to the point where he just ignores it entirely now.

He'll usually eat dinner, albeit reluctantly. I'm still leaning towards him just not liking the food - he has full energy and doesn't have any other health symptoms. My tentative course of action is to slowly transition to the adult version of the TTOW high plains dry food.

Any thoughts?

I think you could change it if you want, but if he isn't showing any signs of sickness or anything that you might be okay with just keeping him on it. It could be the hotter weather (as thats what we are dealing with my dog Nikolai now) or he could just be going through some kind of stage. Siku went through them a lot where he would eat a lot, and then just not really be interested and eventually he would just come back around. Also you could overall lesson his food, where he isn't a puppy anymore he can be requiring less. Siku only gets 2 cups a day and even them sometimes its a little to much for him depending on the weather and that days activities.

I would start by maybe lessening his food, and see how that goes as long as he isn't loosing a significant amount of weight or is becoming lethargic.

Erica gave good advice, my two cents.....Miya is not a morning eater, she gets a grain free biscuit in the morning and she is happy, her prime time is late afternoon, around 4, with a snack when we eat dinner. She will go a day where she will only eat a bone and then resumes her meals, she also gets bored with her food fast, that's why i give taste of the wild and rotate 5 pound bags. She seems to eat better that way. She does however eat more than that, about a cup and a half a day in kibble, most days a bone, and then 4-8 ounces of meat depending on how energetic she is.
