Should you need assistance creating an appropriate signature, please PM an Admin and we would be happy to help! | While bikejoring mishka wants to stop and sniff everything and randomly stop what can I do to get her to ignore the random stopping I've almost ran in to her because of it Please note that I do give her a chance to go potty before we go on a bikejor adventure |

Shore up the "on-by" command walking before taking it to the bike. What kind of bike attachment do you have? A side attachment makes bike training easier as the dog isn't in danger of being hit and if they decide to stop they won't pull you over and you can actually pull them forward. We learned on walks, when she stopped I would tell her "on-by", give slight tug on leash, when she moves on, I treat. On bike I give command and if she don't go she gets pulled forward by the attachment. _________________

I don't use an attachment and thanks for the advice! I will definitely try doing it on walks and I honestly never thought about slightly tugging her leash.

The attachment is well worth the money for training and getting them conditioned well enough they don't wear down and lag behind. I started out just long leading off the handle bars and if she wasn't trying to yank me over I was running over her or the line. _________________

I only had one incident where I almostran over mishka and that was when she randomly stopped to try to eat someone's trash. I made my own "scooter noodle"out of a pool noodle and I haven't ran over the line yet!

Jenn's suggestions and what you are already doing seem to be moving in the correct direction, now I think it's just following through with practice. Give timing some thought too. I found I need to give Maya a second or two to process a command before she follows it, granted anticipating a sudden stop or detour is not easy, but if you watch for likely distractions and give an on-by command it could help avoid the detour. Getting someone to ride in front of you to keep your dogs attention forward could also help.

I never thought about trying having someone bike in front, thanks that's a good idea.
