Ever since we've had mishka she's had this excessive licking she'd just lick for a good 5-10 minutes and she'll lick anything couch,floor,crate door,sidewalk, etc. Another thing is she'll eat grass whenever she's outside even on walks. Also she doesn't really eat her food shell eat not even half of that.

Sounds like anxiety. Does she do it after certain things happen? Like a loud noise, someone just getting home, she's tired? How much do you feed her? If you clap your hands or yell at her, will she stop?

She'll just randomly do it, I usually push her away and that stops her for like 5seconds. I'm getting concerned,I figured it was ocd. Let me add that she is a rescue and she was severely starved and abused but could that cause that?

It could. She probably turned to licking as a coping mechanism when she was abused so now in times of stress or just boredom she turns to it again. After a period it becomes a habit. I would try redirecting her with a toy when I saw it happening to try and break the habit. If she continues the licking and you just want to save your stuff give her something that is okay to lick on. I have a rope that I put a little honey on for my two to lick if they are just stuck in that mood. My new dog is a licker as well. It can be frustrating.

Ahhhhh, Skye, my girl does it too, figured it was a husky thing. Boredom mainly is what I figured. Not to worry you, but if Mishka is also licking herself alot you might want to check and see if she has worms, Miya did all that, then progressed to herself, she is obsessive about cleaning herself, but it went extreme, add the lack of hearty appetite and grass eating and bam, saw a worm, gross.

What kind of worms lol my cats use to have what ever worm that gets pooped out I don't remember what they were called I can't think at the moment but she really hasn't been eating her dog food shell snack every now and then and she'll eat people food if I ggive it to her (its not often ) but I figured that's just heat and today she ate so much grass she threw up

Miya had tapeworms, don't know how she got them , but it took awhile for one to show up, and then it explained her behavior, especially food. She got to the point where she wouldn't even eat her bones, funny she would still guard her bones from the cat, but wouldn't eat them, and her excessive cleaning of herself took on a whole new meaning of obsessive/compulsive. You might want to have her checked by her vet, we gave her drontal xl, and within a couple of days her eating was back to normal, cleaning back to normal, only nibbling on grass here and there. My mother always told me when a dog licks inanimate objects, specifically metal they are lacking in a mineral, can't remember what mineral, my mom passed away 4 years ago so I can't ask her which.

I'm planning on it and I have another problem I don't know how long this has been going on but I've noticed that on a walk today mishka got a hold of some poop and she ate it some say its lack of nutrition is that true?

To the best of my knowledge, nothing has been proven linking feces eating and lack of certain nutrients, but it could be a compulsory behaviour from earlier. Sometimes dogs that are being starved will eat poop to ease hunger pains and will continue to do it out of habit even after they are being fed properly. I've also heard some dogs do it to "clean" their area. As gross as it is, I think it's pretty common. Especially if something in the poop wasn't fully digested and still tastes "good".

I started having problems with Ami compulsively gobbling grass, especially first thing in the morning. And, initially it seemed to be when I was more than 8 hours with his breakfast. I tried to make sure he got fed first thing (ie - less than 8 hours from his "midnight kong snack" but that had inconsistent results. When I switched his food to grain free turkey and potato, that all stopped. (I read that on Dr. Becker on Mercola sight - thought it was worth a try)

As for poop eating - when we first got the big boy, he was a major poop eater. I didn't really do anything other than A: keep his poop cleaned up, B: say "no" and drop it when I caught him eating poop. Somehow over the last 6 months the behavior has stopped - no clue why, just did.

Ive always kept poop cleaned up in the backyard. I think me and a few more people who actually walk their dogs clean their poop up, the rest just leave it laying. I've been trying though she's good a picking up thing without me knowing, she's gotten ahold of a dead bird before while on our walk she didn't even stop it just magicaly appeared in her mouth,it took me forever to.get it out of her mouth.
