| Well, this month was my first month experiencing what a Husky is all about. I picked up my 9 week old(at the time) husky 3 weeks ago and she has been such a great addition to my life. I named her Khalees(guess where that's from lol.) I have to say, first and foremost, her excitement for even the simplest things (like going out for a walk) is unbelievable. She plays with the toys that I bought her, ALL of them. When I say play, I mean she spends at least an hour or two a day, picking through her toys and running around the house squeeking each and every one of them. She's been very good with her eating (I switched her over to RAW this week and she loves it) . She loves the water (don't all huskies?) But I swear she is always trying to jump in the shower with me every morning and night. And she loves loves loves to meet new people and dogs. Although I haven't taken her to the dog park yet, we've seen a few on our walks around the park in front of my place and she loves to run up and meet new people. I have never owned a dog that has gotten so many compliments. My goodness, my girlfriend and I own a quite expensive and extremely cute Yorkie and we have never gotten the amount of requests for pictures as we have for Khalees. The few strong points I can state at the moment are she is EXTREMELY Independent Minded. She listens to every command I give her (and she has learned the few that I've taught) but sometimes, especially after a long day, she's just not having it. She gives me the stare like (leave me alone). I try my hardest to be consistent but it seems like this breed of dog is just a lot harder to get to listen to you all the time. I knew that coming into this. Overall though, I can't complain. She is a great dog so far and I'm so glad I've made the choice of a Husky over anything else. Here's a pic of my Khalees(12 weeks/17lbs). my morning wake up howl |

| Aww, congrats! That independent streak is what drew me to huskies. It keeps you entertained and on your toes I can definitely agree with the compliments/picture taking. I can hardly walk anywhere without being stopped or questioned about my girls. |

| Congrats! Sounds like things are going really well so far. Just a note on the dog park: I'd hold off on taking her there until she's at least five months old. Lots of dog parks won't allow dogs younger than four months because the older dogs tend to pick on the young puppies and you don't want to give them a bad experience like that, especially their first time. Wait until she's a little older and more confident with other dogs. It will be worth it! I love the image of picking through her toys and playing with each one. My Layla definitely has her favorite toys but there are times when she'll go through all her toys and play with each one and finally settle on her favorite, haha. Sounds like your girl has found a great way to keep herself occupied! As for your Husky being more in demand for photos than the Yorkie, I have a funny story that's similar. When Layla was 11 weeks old my parents visited with their 11-year-old Jack Russel/beagle mix, Maggie, for the first time. We went on a walk in the woods and everyone we came across was fawning over Layla but had absolutely nothing to say about Maggie, haha. At one point we had stopped to say hi and were about to get going again and my dad said to Maggie, "Let's go, Chop Liver." BTW ... more pics, please! |

| good to hear things are going well, another point that Liz hit on was watch where you are taking her and walking her while she is still young. she can pick up some nasty things if she has not had all her shots yet, don't want her getting sick. and the independent thinking will only get worse so keep up on the training, even if you get the looks! _________________ |

| Your puppy is beautiful! Love her markings. We get the stare from our 2 year old all the time. I love how much attitude it excudes! Be patient with your puppy as she grows more and more independent. The day will come when she probably won't listen to a thing you say, but it will pass. They are the best dogs! |

| She's beautiful! I know the stare you're talking about. Kaikoura has graduated from 2 training classes now, but when she doesn't want to do something, you'll know it. She stares at you as if she's thinking: OK I really don't want to do this, but if you get out a good treat I'll consider it.
I'd recommend against dog parks until she's older. As other posters have said, she can pick up diseases when she is young because of her weak immune system. But definitely introduce her to dogs that you know that are healthy.
Huskies are fantastic. Very intelligence, independent and curious. Can't wait to see updates of Khaleesi! |

| Thank you all for the kind words. Just to be clear, I stated I haven't taken her to the dog park yet, just out front in the patch of grass we have in the community. |
