Hi,

Inuk is now almost 9 months old and he weighs 51.8lbs (23.5kg) and he is 22.8 inches (58cm) tall.

I think he has a little bit too much weight, so I cut down from 2.5 cups to 2 Cups of Taste of the Wild per day.

You can't feel the ribs unless you apply a little bit of pressure. With 2 Cups per day I don't think that he is acutally going to gain even more weight, but my question is if I should reduce the food even more, so that he starts loosing some weight.

And my second question is how much more growth can I expect now that he is 9 months old. I know that they all grow differently but maybe someone with experience can give me an idea.

Well my pup is 14 months, and has definitely put on some weight and grown a little in height since he was 9 months, but honestly it really depends more on your dog's genetics. Some mature very quickly (like my guy), and some are slower maturing. You'll find out in a few months!

They do slow in growth around that age. So instead of putting on 2-3 lbs a week, he will put on maybe 1-2 lbs a month. After he hits a year, and up to about 2 years, he will start to put on weight, gain muscle and lose puppy fat. He might gain a little height after the two year mark, but not much at all. I noticed that Dizzy got longer in body, but not much taller in the last 3-4 months.

In terms of his current weight, I think he looks pretty good. I guess he could lose maybe a pound or two, but I wouldn't drastically reduce his food unless you think he's still gaining weight. If it helps, I feed Dizzy 1-1.25 cups a day depending on activity level. He was on 2 cups and definitely got chunky, especially since we are doing a lot of training. I do feel bad giving him what seems like so little food, so I add no-salt green beans to his food at night to help fill his tummy.

If you want to keep your pup on 2 cups, I would just increase his exercise and maybe do some conditioning walks. For me that means, walking at a fast pace (3-4 mph) for 30-40 min straight, no stopping to sniff, or pee or whatever. Two of those a day will make a huge difference in the way he looks.
