| Hello, my name is Courtney and I have been a lurker of this forum for quite a few months now. As of January 18th, my husband and I are the proud parents of a little red and white bundle of joy, Achilles. I have waaay too many pictures of him, and I will do my best to sort through them (I'm trying to get a size shot and a face shot of him a week) and post them in the scrapbooks section. We are feeding him a raw diet and we are learning how to potty train him from an apartment on the third floor, so we are navigating our way through both of those things. If anyone has any advice, we would love it! Here is Achilles derping in his crate: Here is one of him this week (he'll be twelve weeks old tomorrow!) : |

| Welcome! We're in Maryland too, just north of Severna Park. If you're on Facebook, go look up Husky Huddle and Malamute Mingle ~ Maryland. We'd love to have you guys out at meets once Achilles has had all of his shots. He's absolutely adorable, by the way _________________ Shadow's Blog Canine Hydrocephalus Support on Facebook "Being the parent of a special-needs pet means living your life constantly poised on the edge of a double-edged sword. | It's exciting that there are so many Marylanders (even within this thread) here! I'd say I can't wait til he's a bit older, but it seems like he's growing so much each day and I don't want it to be over soon! D: Enjoy the snow! |

| What branch are you? I'm Navy, teaching at the Academy for the next couple of years. I have to say though, 14 years into this the moving has really gotten old. How much longer are you in school? _________________ Shadow's Blog Canine Hydrocephalus Support on Facebook "Being the parent of a special-needs pet means living your life constantly poised on the edge of a double-edged sword. | I'm Air Force, born and raised. We moved so many times during my life that it became a way of life. I just started med school in the fall, so we have roughly 3.5 years left, and then off to residency. So exciting, but so nerve-wracking! Annapolis is gorgeous, and you guys have a crew team, which I am really jealous of! |

| Ah cool, USUHS then? I have 3 friends there, 1st, second, and third years. Is Sean Oimette in your class? He graduated from the Naval Academy with me in 2004.
I'm seriously considering the lateral transfer, I just don't know if I can make that kind of time commitment with our current family dynamic. I'm absolutely in love with teaching at the Academy too (never thought those words would come out of my mouth...), and I might be able to stay there if I make O-4. My board is in April, so we'll see.
Achilles is beyond adorable by the way, if you ever want to do a play date before his shot series is complete, we have a nice yard and all our dogs are current on their shots. _________________ Shadow's Blog Canine Hydrocephalus Support on Facebook "Being the parent of a special-needs pet means living your life constantly poised on the edge of a double-edged sword. | Yep! I know Sean. He keeps getting crap from our cardiology professors/classmantes for doing marathons. One of our professors insists it's horrible for the heart, and he's known for running them. Poor guy. I'm sure you know it, but if you do go to USU, they kick you back down to O-1 'til you graduate. Good luck on the promotions board! I'm sure that's nerve-wracking! Thanks for the offer for the puppy playdates! I'll talk with my hubby and see what our schedule is like! |

| I knew about the O-1 thing, but even though I'll be wearing butter bars again I'll still be paid for my previous rank and time in service, which for me is pretty darn good. And I'll get BAH for Bethesda. Sean is a really good dude, and I can see him getting in trouble for running marathons I'm really nervous about the board, but if I don't get it this year I have one more look next year. After that the Navy will show me the door and I'll have to grow up and get a real job. I have a lot of support by some of the really senior guys at the Academy, and they're working with me to make my package really strong for the board. They really do want me to be eligible for the Junior Permanent Military Professor program, I'm perfect for the job since I have the experience and can't go back to the aviation community. So did you go to USAFA or did you go to a real college? On the play dates, just shoot me a PM sometime _________________ Shadow's Blog Canine Hydrocephalus Support on Facebook "Being the parent of a special-needs pet means living your life constantly poised on the edge of a double-edged sword. | BAH for Bethesda/the DC area is pretty glorious, unlike the price for 1-BR apartments around here. xX
Good luck with the boards and that crummy process! It sounds like you have a good group of people rooting for you. Have faith in the system (har har), it works sometimes!
I went to several real colleges for undergrad (changed majors, summer school to transition, etc) and then grad school before. Went from dependent to civilian to AD, all within a span of a year. It was an odd process. |

| Welcome, welcome! Glad you decided to post, and congrats on the little 'un! He's so snuggly! We're hoping our second pup will be red. S/he isn't due until the end of February/beginning of March and wouldn't come home until early May, though. Looking forward to watching Achilles grow! |

| Thanks Liz, Steve, and Sean! We'll probably eventually get into the H2M2 meetups, but for now, we are teaching him to play socialize with the pups at our apartment's "dog park" (large, fenced-in treed area). He's learning he can't defend sticks from other people because there are bigger dogs that will take them away, too, if he's rude. |

| Welcome! We're not too far from the Bay a little north of Annapolis. If you hadn't seen it yet, we have a Husky Huddle and Malamute Mingle group that meets once per month around Maryland. I need to get in there and announce it, but our April meet up is going to be next weekend. We'd love to see you out there _________________ Shadow's Blog Canine Hydrocephalus Support on Facebook "Being the parent of a special-needs pet means living your life constantly poised on the edge of a double-edged sword. | If you look in the upper right hand corner of the page, you'll see a white box with a bunch of links in it. One of them is for how to upload pictures _________________ Shadow's Blog Canine Hydrocephalus Support on Facebook "Being the parent of a special-needs pet means living your life constantly poised on the edge of a double-edged sword.
