| Hello everyone! My name is Henry, I am 28, married and live in Annapolis, MD.... and I am finally getting the dog I have always dreamed of! My obsession with the Siberian Husky dates back to when I was a young cub scout! There was an dog sled organization that came and put on a demonstration for a few troops in my area.. At the end they selected one kid to get the opportunity to meet all the dogs and ride on the cart to mush with the dogs! IT WAS ME! Ever since then I have always wanted one! My family grew up with dogs but I am finally at a solid point in my life which is perfect for my new best friend! I have been on a wait list for 2 years with a local breeder in Maryland waiting. I have completed all the renovations on my house, I got married and my job is very secure and I can financially support owning a dog! His name is HUNTER!!! AND I pick him up TODAY! (8.13.14 in about 6 hrs to be exact!!) My wife and I could not be more thrilled. We have been researching and getting ready for Hunter to join our family and now that the day is finally here, we are sooo excited!! I look forward to being an active member of this community and sharing my experience and learning/growing with a great support found on this forum! Thanks so much and I will be sure to create a scrapbook and stay in touch! |

| Oh my gosh, cuteness overload! I must meet him! So my husband and I live in Pasadena, and I'm an instructor at the Academy. If you haven't yet, checkout our Husky Huddle and Malamute Mingle Facebook Page. Hunter won't be old enough to join us for a couple months, but our dogs are all completely up to date on shots if you ever want to do a playdate. We have 2 girls, Ghost is 3 and Shadow is 18 months, and they're both pretty good with young pups. Welcome to the group, and hopefully you'll get loads of good info here to help raise Hunter _________________ Shadow's Blog Canine Hydrocephalus Support on Facebook "Being the parent of a special-needs pet means living your life constantly poised on the edge of a double-edged sword. | Thanks for all the warm welcomes and great comments!!
@blueeyedghost, Thanks for the heads up on the FB group.. I just joined it and can't wait till he is old enough to come to our first one!! We will just shy of 20 mins away from Pasadena and would Love to meet up! I def. want to get him to meet some other huskies! and make tons of new friends! I will add you on FB so we can talk more!
Things with Hunter have been going great!! During the day he will play for like 30 mins then pass out or chill for an hour & 1/2+... At night he does howl in his crate... I usually get up to take him outside but that is only about 3 times a night.. not bad... But he is soo funny, i will have him in his crate, he will start making noise, if i go lay down next to him and shut my eyes.. he will shut his eyes!! haha I go back to bed for at least 2 hrs at that point,
Last night I tried seeing how he would do out of the kennel, so after I took him outside at like 2am, i laid on the floor by my bed with him and he passed right out... slept partially under the bed cause the cool hardwood floor and there is a vent blowing underneath the bed, too cute!
The one issue that is starting to have me worried is he wont POOP!!! :-(... the first night we brought him home.. he pooped twice... since then, NOTHING!... I take him out a lot.. he has been eating his raw food and drinking lots of water but nothing yet :-/ I read some people just walk their pups longer until they poop and I have tried that but still no luck.. any suggestions?
I need to get him on a consistent schedule because Monday I go back to work ( i worked 2 half days from home ) and the wife goes back to school Monday also... Luckily my dads job will allow him to stop by through out the day and let him out around 11 and 2 then i will be home around 4:30.. so shouldn't be too bad!
I am going to head over and create a scrapbook page now and upload some pics from the first few days!! |

| Ah cool, I remember approving you now You're more than welcome to friend me, and we definitely will need to do some play dates. Go check out our threads on potty training, and hopefully some of our raw feeders will chime in too. He's probably still adjusting to being home, but if he starts acting like he's in pain go to the vet. Speaking of, do you have a vet picked out yet? If not, we couldn't be happier with Bayside Animal Medical Clinic on Ritchie Highway. They have gone so far above and beyond helping us with Shadow's medical needs, it's amazing. Arnold Pet Station is great for boarding and daycare too, but I'm not a fan of their vets. Back to the poop issue, definitely keep walking him around the yard until he does his business, and then praise like crazy when he does. Just be careful about how long you do structured walks (like around the neighborhood), you should keep it to 5 minutes per month of age. Get ready for those puppy shenanigans as his personality comes out too _________________ Shadow's Blog Canine Hydrocephalus Support on Facebook "Being the parent of a special-needs pet means living your life constantly poised on the edge of a double-edged sword. | Thanks I will go see what I can find in those threads! He isn't in pain... he still runs around and is playful and is still going pee and things seem good, just no poop yet... Hopefully tonight after dinner. Funny you should mention Bayside... That is where my parents took their lab when we had her.. I am thinking Bayside or Greater Annapolis Veterinary Hospital on Defense Highway in Annapolis. But if the Vets at Bayside are great with Huskies I will go there... I know all Vets should be great with all dogs but I would like a Vet that has experience with Huskies.. this is my first and I will need them for advice, ect. Yes, we have been walking around the house and yard and he is always great about going pee right away and he is soo happy when i praise him, I just got some Taste of the Wild dog food and using it as treats he likes it so I am using those also after. I LOVE his personality... you will see in some of the pictures I post, he is a ham! |

| Bayside has loads of good Husky experience Our vet there is Katie Buchanan, she's fantastic. Greater Annapolis is ok, that's where we board Shadow when we have to board her, but they're really pricey. _________________ Shadow's Blog Canine Hydrocephalus Support on Facebook "Being the parent of a special-needs pet means living your life constantly poised on the edge of a double-edged sword. | I can't get enough of your pictures - he is just so cute and cuddly! I am afraid you have re-induced MAJOR puppy fever... Are all husky puppies so fluffy? Asks the Mommy with one of the fluffiest huskies on this forum Our boy loves kibble so much that it's all we have to use for treats...but he likes ALL food and is soooo rewarding to feed that he gets...a lot (within calorie guidelines - don't want a fat boy!) |

| Haha, Amy you should get another one! ;-) He def. was the fluffiest of this brothers and sisters but that just makes him extra cuddly! I love it!! And I am hoping he continues to like the kibble, I know the benefits of a Raw diet but right now its just something I am not too comfortable with but he loves to eat!! See how he waits so patiently like a good boy for his food! LOL |

| Most of us husky owners have the opposite problems in the poop category. Try plain, pure pumpkin, I know it's good for loose stool as well as constipation. Also try sardines packed in water, the fish oil may help move things too. I'm sure it's the transition. BTW what a gorgeous and happy little guy. Good Luck |

| Congrats on your new pup he's awesome!!! I live in your area as well and work in Annapolisl!! So awesome to see other Husky owners so close by! We had to do the same thing sleeping next to the crate with our first to get her to sleep through the night. Eventually tho we did let her in the bed and she slept all night Our new little guy tho prefers his crate all by himself. So i really think it all depends on the pup. |

| That is great! Hunter is doing much better at night... In the crate he will sleep for about 3 hrs without howling for attention or needing to go out real quick to go pee. But when he sleeps out, he likes sleepng under the bed on the hard wood and with the vent blowing on him. What a goof. I want to let him in the bed but the wife is holding firm that he won't.. I think she will come around... :-D
I live over by the fairgrounds but my parents live near Bay Ridge so we plan to go to Quiet Waters Park often... DO you go there? Anyone else like it there?

| Our boy loves the cold vent as well we put his crate right by it and he sleeps on that side to be closest to it! We were against letting her in the bed at first too but when it gives you more sleep we caved and now i hate when she wants to sleep on the floor ! I love Quiet Waters we usually just walk the trails but i know their dog park has two different ones for different size dogs so thats nice! The only issue we had when we went was Akira talking to much some owners thought she was being aggressive but we tried to tell them they are just very vocal dogs! And she also plays a little rough so it would be so nice to have other huskies there! Ours love playing with each other but the older one is still too big for our little guy! |
