Apple cider vinegar is the best, you want to use the pure, unpasteurized product with the mother in it (you can find it at most health food stores). ACV really is such an amazing product and has so many benefits. ACV is antibacterial and anti fungal; it improves the immune system, liver, bladder and kidney function; helps with itchy skin and allergies; balances digestive enzymes; normalizes the pH of the body; repels both internal and external parasites like fleas and worms; provides potassium for tissue and joint health; makes a great ear cleaning solution; reduces inflammation...the list could go on and on! Don't take my word for it, look up more info on ACV yourself. It's benefits not only work for us but our dogs too. You can mix ACV directly into your dogs food or put it in their water. If you are trying to get rid of fleas or combating skin issues you can make a 50/50 mix of ACV and water in a spray bottle and spray it on their coat or you can give them a bath in the 50/50 mix. I hear that ACV also helps eliminate or lessen the incidence of gas in some dogs too if you have problems with that.

i thought this needed its own thread for health reasons not for our lawns.
so yesterday i went to "whole paycheck" and picked up a bottle of ACV. i have been needing it for my "diet" as a good chicken marinade called to use it. i also put 2 Tbs into a gallon jug and filled it with water to give to S&J. i washed all the water and food dishes and filled with fresh water but one. i filled the main dish they drink out of with the ACV/water mix. It has not been a hit, neither of them will drink out of the dish and i think they think i filled all the dishes with it as their water consumption was down last night after doing this. maybe the mixture is to strong? should i try just 1Tbs to the gallon and see it that works or is it pointless because that makes it to weak? any suggestions? thanks....

I mix it up with Nupro supplement since you have to add water to that anyway and my girls love it. Siku will not drink it just mixed in water and I've never tried giving it to Elara that way. Maybe mix it up with chicken or beef broth.

I give my 14 year old BC a half ounce twice a day for arthritis. I just pour it over her food and she doesn't seem to care.

I don't put ACV in my dogs' water but I don't think they would mind it truthfully. Could you possibly mix it in their food? I mix ACV in with my dogs' dinner 4 nights a week and they eat it up no problem. They really don't seem to care one way or the other. The Nupro and chicken broth additions are good suggestions as well.

I tried a C.E.T. enzyme water additive this week that you just add to the water bowl. The dogs were apprehensive to drink water that first night but the next day they didn't care and drank like normal. You could try doing a lower dosage/weaker amount of ACV at first and increase it later perhaps if they get used to it.

I put 1/2 tablespoon in Ginger's water, which is about 4 cups. I even tasted it to make sure it wasn't too strong, and I couldn't even taste any different. (Yes, I washed her bowl out before I took a little taste of her water with ACV). I think I can add more, but I figured she usually drinks most of her water in 2 days, so she ends up getting just about 1 tablespoon every other day.

Ok guys, sorry if I missed this, but what is ACV good for in dogs? Other than arthritis?

I started using ACV a few weeks ago. Frankie and Bruiser don't seem to mind as long as it's in the food and not the water. I was just reading some things about using ACV to treat hot spots by applying the mixture directly to the spot. Has anyone ever tried this?
I was a little concerned that it would sting and irritate the spot more. If the hot spot is dry and flaky, would it dry out the skin even more?

I see a new spot developing on Frankie so Iam trying to keep it from getting to bad. I have been searching for fleas and haven't found any or any dirt so that's a good sign.

I've never used it for hot spots personally so I don't know. I've always used Cortizone 10 plus aloe for hot spots and it's always helped my dogs.

I know I can't mess Storm's water with ACV - he'll go drink the toilet water instead!
I'm going to try adding some in his food and see if he'll still eat his food...

1/2 teaspoon with Storm's lunch today, mixed in with his Nupro was a success! I'll mix another 1/2 teaspoon again with dinner so he'll get 1 teaspoon of ACV each day.

I found ACV and started giving it them yesterday. I put a teaspoon in their THK and both ate it just fine. I honestly thought that they wouldn't...that stuff smells strong!

It does smell strong, I think it tastes strong in the water too. Frankie drank a little and kept licking his lips, even though I thought I diluted it pretty well. It was funny until he tried going to every other water source in the house (sinks, toilets, water cooler, etc) when he had a full bowl. But once I put it in his food, he gobbled it right up. I guess nothing will stop him from eating, lol

A teaspoon of ACV is GREAT for heartburn too! It tastes horrible but I'm tellin' ya, it stops heartburn quick style!

I used that to remove the odor of my dog's pee in her crate. It's very effective and will remove the odor instantly. They say it's better than synthetic cleaners.

Are you sure you're not thinking of White vinegar? White vinegar is a very effective cleaner for a lot of things, it's a staple in our house! I've never heard of ACV being used as a cleaning agent.

I know this is an old thread, but there is no reason to start my own.

I read that a 50/50 water and ACV mixture is a good flea killer and to spray it directly on the coat. My girls have recently picked up fleas from my STUPID neighbor , so I was looking for a natural way to kill them. I tried the mixture, and I could LITERALLY see the fleas dying as I was spraying them!! It was so cool. So I went and sprayed the dog bed, the couch, the chair, and the carpet.

What I am wondering (and what I can't seem to find..) is how often can I spray the 50/50? Why I ask is not only to kill the fleas on them, but Kennedy constantly licks and bites at her nails, and I also read that spraying the 50/50 on the feet will stop dogs from licking and biting. AND IT WORKED! So now I just need to know how often I can do this.

Also, I read that it is a good ear cleaner as well. Has anyone had any experience using ACV this way? I have only been putting it in their water and now spraying them with it. I love what it has done for us so far, and if I can implement it even more, then that's awesome.

OH. And I was wondering about the amount I have been putting in their water. I have been putting about a tablespoon every day to every other day, depending on how fast they drink their water. From what everyone has been posting, a tablespoon is too much. They drink their water with no hesitation, and I haven't seen anything negative happening since I started. Is this too much, or is it okay? Kennedy is about 35 pounds and Sheba is 32.

A tablespoon in their water is fine. I put a tablespoon directly in my sibe's food bowl when he gets his dinner and he averages 48-50 lbs. My chi girls get a teaspoon of ACV and Faith 6.5 lbs and Glory is 7 lbs.

The ACV/water mix is good for ridding fleas but I have not heard of it being used as a long term solution. I've only ever heard of it being used to treat a problem, like when the dog already has fleas like in your case but not so much as an ongoing prevention method. I'm not saying you couldn't, I just haven't heard of it being used in that way so I can't comment to how long it would be safe to use in that manner. An ACV/water bath is also effective at killing off the fleas from a dog that already has them.

I guess I should clarify just a little bit. What I meant is how often do I need to spray for the fleas to be dead? Just once? I don't have a bathtub in my house, so unless things get really bad, baths aren't really a feasible option. My mom lives in the country, and it has just recently snow stormed lol, so I'd rather not risk a trip out there! I don't want to over spray them, but I don't want to under spray either. I just want these pesty things GONE!!

My main question was about spraying Kennedy's paws. I like using it a lot better then bitter apple spray, so I'd rather use ACV; but I don't know how often I can or should use it. Most of the info I'm finding is repeating information just telling me what I can use it for, not how often I can use it. Know what I mean?

Hello There, I´m a new owner of a 46 days old S. Husky named Marley, quite an active puppy.

Got the puppy from a Petstore here in Bogota, Colombia, they gave me the puppy with fleas and a little cold, I did not noticed until the night we arrived home.
So I started reading about ACV to pump up his Immune system, giving him 2ml of Amoxixilina 2/day, and 3 drops of Inmunair 1/day

With that said, I wanted to know if this is the right approach ? I´ve had a husky before but in Miami, totally different climate and surroundings, here everything is wet and cold.
