| I am a bit surprise and shock that husky prone to this nasty Hemangiosarcoma cancer. As far as I know that husky are prone to have eye problem and hip dysplasia otherwise they are quite a healthy breed. What else husky are prone to suffer health issues that I have been overlooked?

| I don't know if what I'm reading is saying they are prone to this cancer, it seems to say as well as other sources that GSD are primarily prone to this cancer followed by retrievers. Even the newsletter you linked to suggested that to me. Of course if it is your husky, the numbers don't matter as much to you as I found out after having a cat get vaccine associated fibrosarcoma (only 1 in 3000 to 1 in 10,000 cats develop it).
I would add seizures to your list. This one sticks out to me given I have a dog with epilepsy (my GSD mix). After that, from what I have read, huskies seem pretty healthy like you said as a breed. Of course this is coming from a person who has a lab and GSD mix. These breeds seem to pop up all the time when looking at medical sites, so maybe my perspective is a little warped. |

I agree that GSD and retrievers are the top of the list, however I didn't expect that husky is on the list. "Breeds that are more prone to this type of cancer include German Shepherds, Golden Retrievers, Labrador Retrievers, Pointers, Boxers, English Settlers, Great Danes, Poodles, and Siberian Huskies." http://www.cancerquest.org/canine-hemangiosarcoma.html Seizures, Is husky prone to this or that is a general medical condition to all canine? Many thanks |

| I see seizures more on this site than I do hip dysplasia, so I'm thinking it is prevelent to huskies. I know wikipedia and such calls it out specifically as a issue with the breed. Maybe some others can chime in, but in general my assumption is seizures is something to watch for in huskies but may not be as prevelent as what you see in GSD with epilepsy. |
