My dog has skin allergies so the vet recommended prescription food. We decided on raw food because that is healthy for her skin allergies as well.

We've been through many methods but my dog still won't eat raw - it's been 7 days now. How much longer can she last?? She's been eating leaves and stuff in the yard. On day 5, she actually ate a spoonful of raw meat, but she hasn't eaten since then.

I've tried hand-feeding and force-feeding (gently...) in the beginning. Now, it's just been tough love, as in putting the food down for 15 minutes twice a day and picking it up after that... Well, so far, she's lasted a week, so it's feeling like she's giving ME tough love.

The methods we've tried:
1. Mixing raw with cooked for the 1st week (results: she ate all the cooked and left the raw).
2. Tried a whole chicken leg.
3. Tried grounded raw meat (chicken, pork, beef, liver, veggies, egg, yogurt, etc.) with a little bit of seasoning.
4. Frozen grounded raw meat.
5. Crumpled treats, cheese, and other stuff on the top of her meat.
6. Did the alpha (humans) gets to eat first and stuff.
7. We are about to try seared raw meat if she still won't eat in the next 3 or 4 days.

Will she be okay? She's healthy and strong as an ox. Plus, she has a lot of energy and is still as playful as ever, which I am grateful for. However, it's been a week now. If she does go another week without eating (which I am pretty sure of it by the looking at her), I am wondering if I'll have to be taking her into the vet by then for organ failure or something .

Oh, Okami is 2 years old and she's been fed kibbles all her life, and sometimes home-cooked food.

Is it possible she has another source of food besides the leaves? Maybe she's finding rabbit or cat poop that is satiating her enough to survive and still have energy.

I know what you are going though, Anya was super picky at first too. Fish was the easiest thing to transition her to. First I started with canned sardines (in water, with no added sodium!) and transitioned to raw frozen cod with no problem . I recently found whole frozen raw sardines at the hispanic grocery for $2 a pound and have been feeding her half a pound a week.

Another thing that she seemed to like was seared boneless, skinless chicken breast. I made each meal progressively more raw until she didn't notice or care that it wasn't seared.

Have you tried freezing the food before you give it to her? Sometimes that helps

She hasn't been getting a second source of food.

Yeah, we are trying frozen to partly frozen right now, but she hasn't even tried to lick it. Hopefully, she will get hungry enough to try it soon.

We were going to sear her food if she still won't eat in another 3 or 4 days. We actually tried mixing cooked and raw meat together, but it gave her bad poo poo. It was quite bad. I was afraid to try it again so I am leaving that as a last option. Did your dog have normal poo eating partially cooked food? Thanks for the reply.

I got my late picky Chihuahua, Faith, to eat raw by searing her meat and showing her tough love. She lasted 3 days before she caved. 7 days seems awful long, I too would suspect she's found something else to eat to keep her strength up without you realizing.
