| Hi, So my 4 year old female is a very fussy eater and lately has been unwell. She's been getting diarrhoea and also vomiting I don't think this is due to the food I'm feeding her but to make sure I want to change her food to something that I know is 'Husky friendly'. From having her as a puppy she been on a lot of different feeds, from Hills Science plan to Bakers meaty balls, her stomach isn't as sensitive as her brother was she can eat pretty much anything and be fine on it but she's can be very fussy. I was feeding her Wainwrights lamb and rice dog food, which she was fine eating until she became very gassy, so I took her to the vets and she said to try a salmon or fish and rice dog feed, so I started feeding her Wainwrights Salmon and rice dog feed but after about 2 years plus of being on Wainwrights she became bored and stopped eating it. After that I put her on Fishmongers Finest fish and potato, but after being on this food for 6 months ish she has becoming gassy and has been vomiting, but I'm not a 100% sure this is due to the food. In my Garden I have black berries, raspberries and a pear tree, we have spotted her eating them and have stopped her and we try pick all the pears off the floor when they fall so she doesn't eat them (they are very sweet and juicy pears) but sometimes she sees them before we do and she eats it before we can catch her and get it off her haha So my question is, what's the best food to feed my husky? UK dog food only please. Additional information, she's a family husky not a working husky or a sled racing husky so I don't want to be giving her a food that is going to give her more energy then she needs as she's a very calm and quite natured girly and she's the only dog in the house. Thank you |

| I am a little short on time today, but wanted to respond. We have a thread here, not too long ago, but it would take me time to dig for it. The food I recommended to this member was Eden, and if I remember correctly it was an excellent food, and at a good price. There was another brand equally as good but more expensive. I don't remember the name of it, at the moment. I can dig for it if you need it. Imho, the quality of the food will not make a dog more or less hyper. The key idea is that you would feed a more active, such as a sled dog, more food, and a less active dog less food. I would feed around 2 cups a day on a quality food such as the Eden, and then adjust from there. Most huskies require 20-25% less food than other breeds. Most of us with adult dogs feed somewhere around 1-2 cups of kibble per day, less on less active days more on more active days, although I would decrease and increase at 1/8 to 1/4 cup at a time, as not to cause stomach upset. If you feed a lot of treats during the day, I would feed less kibble, and if you don't feed a lot of treats then the closer to 2 cups kibble will be fine. I hope I could help. and welcome to the forum!! We love pics here, so would love to see pics of your girl. |

| Also, failed to mention, that huskies are notorious for not being big eaters, fussy eaters, and self regulate, so skipping a meal is quite ok, skipping many meals not ok. They are also notorious at having tummy issues, so feeding grain free foods are the best way to go. |

| I know huskies are awkward animals haha but they're proper dogs, proper companions, wouldn't swap her for any other doggie! Thank you for the food suggestion, I will check it out and buy a sample and give it a try, if you or anyone else have any suggestions please let me know. Many Thanks from me and my Girly Sophie |

| The thread that Renee was referring to is this one. There're also a couple of links to UK specific dog food sites that might help you. Like Renee, I was impressed by the quality of both the foods mentioned in the thread. _________________ “Properly trained, a man can be dog’s best friend.” Corey Ford . |

| I did find the other food, Akela......We have some members from the UK, but do not post often, so it is a little more daunting for us US based members knowing specific foods in the UK, which are good for our huskies. So I do recommend the Eden and the Akela, from the reading I did for another member based in the UK, as appropriate kibble for a husky. I compared those two, to our US quality foods, and those two would be excellent to feed your girl.
Wow, what a pretty girl. Thanks for posting up pics. We do have a subsection in the forum called scrapbooks, a great place to post up pics of the lovely Sophie!!
Good Luck
thanks Al |
