| Okay, so after seeing some ski tracks in our park yesterday, I'm really thinking about getting some skis. I used to be a serious downhill skier, but have only been on cross country skis, maybe twice in my life, the last time being about 20 years ago. So, I kinda want to get some, but don't know where to start. Any recommendations on equipment for a newbie? |

| Are you thinking of Skijoring or just skiing? |

| You can probably pick up some used skis in your size. I would go to a specialty store to be fitted for new boots, however.
Get the boots first. Then you can mate to the correct bindings and skis. |

| Give the man from Portland a Cigar! most important is correct fitting boots. If they don't fit and feel right nothing else will either. Low end ski's cut for on and off groomed trails run either side of $200 dollars if you buy new. Not sure what the used market looks like but Goodwill store had a decent pair of kids sized Karu's for $10 dollars, but boots were still needed. Go with a no-wax kick zone so you don't have to figure out what kick wax you need for the snow you have. Tips and tails can be glide waxed but it's really a matter of choice, I wax because I believe it helps keep the base in good shape, don't know if I could prove it or not but it makes me happy and it doesn't hurt anyone. If you are an REI member they should be getting to the sales soon, lots of options, just make real sure Diz understands Whoa! first! |

| In NYC, you have EMS and Paragon. Both would probably be good places to go for knowledgable boot fitting.
Years ago, I lived in northern Westchester County. I loved going to Paragon- bought my first down jacket there.
Hughie, I've lived in Wisco too, long ago, when I attended Marquette. |
