So tonight we were at the dog park and a lab mix attacked Jasper and bit his face. He currently has a tooth sized puncture on his muzzle and what looks like a scratch/sore under his tongue (given his muzzle condition i cant force his mouth open to fully check) and when i blotted his nose with a tissue there was some blood but thats since stopped. His nose is black so i can't tell if its a cut or internal nose bleed. I cleaned the puncture with warm water and applied polysporin but the bloody nose makes me worry that the puncture went as far as his nasal canal .... is that even possible?? Im wondering if i should call the emerg vet (its 10pm here) or call tomorrow and see if they can fit me in..... or should i keep doing home care and just watch for infection, is this even worth a vet visit? Im just so worried about my baby! This is myfirst bite incident

I would personally take him in right away, but that choice is up to you. It's definitely worth a vet visit IMO. Good luck, and sorry to hear about Jasper.

Can you post a picture please? There is often nothing hey can do for a puncture but tell you to keep it clean.

After having a puppy who is careless with his nose, I would guess if it was bad, the bleeding would not have stopped. I know when Loki hit his nose a few times, the vet said as long as it stopped bleeding that I should keep it clean and apply neosporin 2 times per day. If I was you, I would probably wait until tomorrow to call my normal vet. If the bleeding starts and won't stop, I would take him in immediately.

I would call the vet in the morning. Just make sure to have cleaned the area the best you can and watch for any swelling or redness. Any puncture from an unknown animal should require at least a vet to look at it because of all of the bacteria that gets deep in the wound. Sometimes they seem shallow but are much worse than they appear on the surface. Consulting a vet is always the best idea in my opinion. Also, did you get the other dog owners information? They seem to be at fault here if it was an unprovoked attacked...any vet bills should be split or paid for by the other owner.

I called the vet and they can't get me in today unless it's an emergency, but the tech told me that I should clean it with antibacterial soap as often as I can and apply polysporin after. She figured that the nosebleed was probably just broken blood vessels from the impact and the fact that it stopped is a good sign. She also told me not to let it scab because that may cause an abscess. So now I'm irrigating it frequently with warm water to stop a scab from forming and monitoring it closely for pus, temperature and redness. Honestly, it's a hell of a lot better this morning. I think the gaping hole just shocked me last night! Have a look at these pics and see what you think, it's still slightly swollen but I think that's just from the impact, as you can see now it's only a small dark spot on his snout. And no I didn't get info from the owner, it was obviously his dogs fault but it was kind of a confusing situation... we were all standing around chatting and there were about 8-10 dogs running around. Jasper was playing with another husky (they're good friends) and this particular husky is very agressive and protective if confronted. We heard a yelp and looked over and the other husky was being attacked by/fighting the lab mix and the owners went to break it up, the guy then checked over his lab and my friend checked her husky and there were no injuries so he left. Then my friend noticed Jasper's face, so by this time the other owner was gone so there wasn't anything I could do. What we assumed happened was the lab attacked Jasper (which was the yelp we heard) and then the other husky attacked the lab (defending Jasper). Seriously I know everyone says their dog never bites, but Jasper NEVER does so I know it wasn't his fault. He's always the first to submit and usually gets bullied at the park cause he doesn't like to fight and will always try to run away if he can escape.

That's not bad - don't worry about it. Just keep cleaned out and it will scab over and heal.
