Should you need assistance creating an appropriate signature, please PM an Admin and we would be happy to help! This is to ensure that signatures remain a welcome addition to our forum instead of a cumbersome distraction. | Well the good news is that this is perfectly normal; Huskies are very mouthy, both verbally and physically.
The bad news is that there isn't much you can do about it, certainly not a quick fix.
Considering the reason they do it and the motivation they have while doing it (socializing--watch two or more Huskies together and you'd think they were trying to deskin one another), the best thing you can do now is completely ignore him and walk away. Period. Just stop and leave.
Eventually when he's older you can teach him appropriate vs inappropriate times for teeth-on-skin play with you, but 4 months is too young for such distinctions.
Just keep in mind he's doing it because he likes you and try your best to not allow it to be self rewarding at no time whatsoever.
Cheers. |

| The things I do. And I must mention this is not a quick fix, it is an association over time.
If biting/mouthing on you: Make a loud HIGH pitched yelp, or, "OUCH!" In the wild, if a wolf bites or nips at another wolf, they would yelp and make a high pitched crying noise, and it would tell the other dog, "Hey dude that hurt, stop it." Be sure that everyone in the house hold does this technique for if you are the only one who does it, the dog will only learn not to mouth you and still do it to everyone else.
When Biting/Chewing/mouthing on household items i.e furniture, laundry, carpets etcetera: remove the item or remove the dog from the situation, say something like, "Bad chew!" and replace with a chew toy and say, "Good Chew!" If the dog goes back to the scene of the crime keep doing this until your dog associates that you don't want them chewing on that item. You may need to do it a few times every time, but your dog will eventually get bored and move on to the next distraction. Another suggestion, the furniture that your dog finds interesting to chew on, spray it with bitter apple spray (you can find in any pet store) to discourage future chewing. Tip: When using bitter apple spray wear gloves and cover your mouth. It tends to get on your hands and in your mouth, and then you taste it for an hour and it is gross! lol.
Hope this helps! |
