I want to feed my two boys (Cheech and Casper, 9 yr old 65lb Sibes) the Prey Model Raw diet. However, I am not home from the hours of 7 AM to 2:50. Is there any way to remedy this?

I don't feed PMR, but my assumption would be is you feed them at scheduled times either in the morning, evening, or both (half/half). PMR is not something you would "free feed" for obvious reasons.

Someone else with more knowledge and experience will post (I hope) but in my research of raw feeding, it seems as if many people who have older dogs only feed 1x per day. If you or your pups don't like that idea maybe adjust your routine so that you can feed them early before you leave and then in the evening.

My fiancé and I are gone from 8-5 on week days and have no problem feeding PMR. She usually eats 8 oz at 7 am, 5 pm then 8 pm, so a total of 1.5 pounds a day since she is still rapidly growing

An adult dog can be fed one meal a day of raw food just fine, one does not need to be home all day to feed a PMR diet. Some people prefer to feed 2 meals a day which is also fine. Ultimately it's up to you how many meals a day you make of it and what times you feed. My adult dogs get one main meal a day, whether that meal is kibble or raw, doesn't matter.

PMR purists believe that you should randomize feeding times. I get the idea of it, in the wild dogs don't have the luxary of saying, "hey, it's 6pm, I'd better eat". They eat when a food source becomes available. So if you were going to a hard core true Prey Model, you would need to be home to feed at random various times of the day. But as others have said, you can feed a nice heathly raw diet and feed only once or twice a day. People life gets hectic, so I just feed her on a regular schedule. I feed my 52 lb female 1 lb of raw once daily, and she's happy and satisfied. I'm probably too late to this thread, but thought I'd chime in.

Honestly I've never head of purposely randomizing and varying times just for PMR. That's silly.

Some of the things that come out from the "hardcore PMR" people is silly.

Hahaha, yeah. Like I said I get it in theory. But the reality is they are domesticated pets and we have complicated human lives. Plus a scheduled feeding stops the random begging. I would like if my dog never knew what time meal time is, she'd constantly be asking Smile
