So Loki had his first animal attack today. A baby opposum. He was playing in the yard tonight. I heard some boards fall behind fence. Then, he was running around with what I thought was his raccoon toy. When he started to come in and stopped, I was confused as he usually comes inside pretty well. So, I went to get his favorite toy. Nope, nothing. Back inside for hot dogs. He stopped and dropped what I thought was his toy. Then, I saw refletion of eye. I took him inside. Then, went to check on animal. The poor thing was still breathing well, but not moving around much. Very wet, but no bite marks or blood. It is just a baby. I tried waking my fiance who just told me to throw in the neighbors yard. I wish the wildlife clinic was open, but it is not. That is where I took a baby bunny my lab injured badly. Yet for the other baby bunnies, they told me to put them back. I know Loki found the adult the other day. It played dead and I took him inside and thought it was over. Didn't know babies were in my yard too. This little guy is really bad off and I am sad even though I don't really like opposums (they scare me). I took a shovel and scooped him into the side of my house under some bushes so my dogs can't hurt him again. Figure I'll check on him in morning. Sometimes the bunnies disappeared when I did this and sometimes they would be dead. So, what do you do when you find badly injured wild animals (particularly babies)? We reinforced our fence enough to keep out bunnies so we stopped this issue with my lab. In the past, my dogs only found adult opposums which are harder to injure (they confuse dogs I think) and I only saw babies in front yard. Anyone have tips on how I can keep opposums (particularly babies) out of my yard? The only other animals are birds and squirrels. The squirrels seem to run up the fence as soon as the hear the door open. Dang opposums.

When I was younger we used google and raised them ourselves if no bones were broken. Now that I have a car I take them to the wildlife sanctuary in Green Bay. I was actually at school once and got a call from work that a bird flew into the big winds on the terminal. They thought it broke its neck so I had to pick it up and drop it off at the sanctuary for them.

Call animal control? They should have resources that can get it to a place where it can be nursed back to health and released back into the wild.

Well, the little baby passed away. I'm calling wisconsin humane society today just to ask them where to take or call in future off hours. In the past, my lab did it during working hours, so I could drop off. Last night they were closed. Driving to green bay is far as I live in Milwaukee area.

Sorry the baby passed on I've had a few similar encounters with my pups. What I do when they injur a wildlife animal is take it to our 24 hour emergency vet. i just drop it off and the vet fixes the animal or takes it to a wildlife center, so it can recover and can be released back into the wild.
