Little rant from today's incident: So, I have been pet sitting for a this families mixed breed dog and the owner said it was alright if I had my husky there to play. I usually don't pet sit but it was kind of last minute so I decided to do it. I had to bring my dog anyways because I don't like leaving her for too long. Anyways around 11am I had them running around in the backyard and then the mixed breed runs back to the door and stops playing. I walk over and I am like "hey go play!" and I look over and there is a small laceration on its leg. Didn't bleed and the dog didn't show signs of pain until later on. So when I saw this, I brought my dog home (live close by) and came back alone to assess the injury without my dog going near an injured dog. Looked like a laceration from a puncture of some kind. I call the owners and they say "oh she gets scrapes sometimes, just put some aquaphor on it and she'll be okay." I told them I should take it to the vet to make sure there is no chance for infection and I can't tell how deep it really is. It is hard to tell on those kinds of situations better safe than sorry right. It took the owners about 4 hours before I convinced them to have me take the dog to the vet and before I go there, then they begin the blame game and start saying my dog must have bit theirs and blah blah. But there was no altercation of any kind I was watching them the whole time. Friendly play the whole time. Luckily the vet said I was right and it was too clean of a puncture for a dog bite, must have been some sort of fencing or sharp object she accidentally ran by. The vet had to call the guy and reassure him it wasn't a wound from another animal...just because my dog looks like a wolf doesn't mean it bites. It is super friendly. Psh. The vet required the dog have anesthetic, a suture, and drain the area. Ouch. Cost a few hundred too, not the happiest of things to hear when you are on vacation I am sure. Needless to say, although me and my dog were not at fault for this, I probably won't be pet sitting anymore haha.

I'm sorry that happened under your watch and that it was so stressful. Honestly though, if I was in the owner's situation, I'd be pissed too. If I have a petsitter, I am putting my baby's well being in their hands. I'm not saying it's your fault at all, but getting that phone call while you are hundreds of miles away and unable to do anything or really understand how bad the injury was (not to mention the cost), you'd be freaking out too!

Maybe point out that if it happens all the time - then I would check out the yard. If I were the owner I would have been concerned after two "scrapes". If there is something in the yard and the dog it getting hurts whose not to say that a kid can't get hurt too.

Clearly as the petsitter you should have put safety foam all around the backyard and house and lined the floor with bubble wrap! lol sorry to hear about the stressful time. But you performed very well, you were there when the dog needed you to be and you acted accordingly in order to maintain the dog's safety. I wouldn't throw in the towel for petsitting .
