| Hello All, After many years of planning and waiting, my fiance and I have got ourselves a little bundle of joy! She is only 8 weeks old, sharing the same birthday as the little royal Prince George (22/07/2013). We have had some excellent bonding time with each other over the last week and she seems to be very obedient and will sit, stay, and come on voice command with and without treats (expect praise). She is a smart cookie and came from the breeders already toilet trained (i.e. only goes to the toilet on newspaper). We are hopeful that all those wonderful characteristics will stay! Last night, we took her to puppy training class. She is very wary of strangers and other dogs, she growled almost the whole 1.5 hours and barked when anyone came too close. She seems very shy of anything new, but took to us SO well, no growling/barking etc. We hope that she will be more sociable with some time. She seems quite loving (clingy), she will almost always sit at my feet with her head resting on me and follows me around the house. Despite this, we are having a hard time stopping her from trying to nip. She will almost never bite me hard, but quite often snaps the air or tries to get me when patting or playing. We have been discouraging her with loud OWWWWWsss and NO, and this morning we have taken to completely ignoring her when she starts this. I am guessing that this is just all normal puppy behavior? She doesn't do this to my partner, only me. Also, at the moment she has green eyes. We have read in places that this is impossible for siberian huskies. They were dark blue when she was born, and we know that they can change from now on. Any opinions about this? I have attached a photograph with a close-up of on of her eyes. In addition, we have noticed that the whites of her eyes are sometimes pinky (see second photo), this seems to get pinker as she gets tired. Is this normal? Her eyes are not weeping or showing any other signs of infection. Cheers! |

| Welcome to the forum! I have seen it on adult white huskies before so I don't think its impossible. She's a cutie for sure, can't wait to watch her grow! |

| Yay for another Kiwi!!!! Zephyr is adorable congratulations on your bundle of fuzz The nipping is normal for a husky pup, it will settle down just consistently ignore her she'll get the hint... eventually. I love the name Zephyr by the way, it's one of the options we were considering for our boy |

| Welcome, if I did my math right did you get her before she was 8 weeks old? That could be an issue with the nipping... As for the eyes looks like they may change some more, would not worry about it. How are you taking her out to class and all before she has had all her puppy shots, thats not a good idea. Glad u joined the site, use the search button for any questions you may have there is a ton of info about puppies here! _________________ |

| We got her at 7.2 weeks old to be exact. That's just the way everything worked out with the breeder. The puppy school is at our veterinary clinic and ran by the vet nurse, she assured us that she was fine to be there before her second and third injections. She has had one at 6 weeks. The nurse even suggested that in a controlled environment, i.e. at our house, she could meet our friends older dogs as they were fully vaccinated.
The nipping is getting better, and we have started eye-contact training, which is helping with that too.
Zephyr, I love that name. She has been named Zephyr since 2008. I am a HUGE Red Hot Chili Peppers fan, and decided that it would be a fantastic name for a Siberian Husky. |
