| Subject: Moving tips anyone? Mon Aug 19, 2013 11:44 am | |
| I looked through some older threads and didnt see this addressed (forgive me if i missed it) but has anyone had trouble with potty training relapse when they move? Im moving from a rental house to an apartment and am looking for general tips and advice for moving with a husky. Ive heard somtimes they have to be re-potty trained and that concerns me as this place has carpeting . any thoughts? Thanks!! ps were only moving across town so the actual "moving" part isnt a big deal. just the part where we start living in a new place : ) |

| Is your husky laid back in newer places or high strung? I think when you get there I would suggest just assume that you will have to re-potty train and take out often. Or if that is a hassle maybe bell train at your current rental, and then show her the bell and the door at the new place and that might lessen the time amount of time you spend going up and down stairs. |

| I've never experienced it, but yes, your Kiba may relapse for about a week. Even though it's across town, it's a completely new place for Kiba! Just discipline Kiba as you see fit. Make sure you buy some enzyme pee cleaner while you're there. It will keep Kiba from marking the same spot over and over again. See if you can get your hands on a shampooer as well. |

| When we were moving, before we actually moved into the house I brought Mishka over so he could get used to the new house. He had quite a few accidents in the house, but of course I wasn't watching him like I should have. They also had a dog and cats in the house before we moved in and there's no telling if any of them ever pottied inside.
You may have some accidents, just keep an eye on her. Make sure you take her out the new door to potty and praise her every single time she potties outside. If you're worried about her messing on the carpet, keep her confined to an area that has tile/laminate when you can't watch her. _________________ |

| It really depends on the dog. Pippa does fine in new places, but my friend's dog poops in every new place she goes, without exception.
I'd start by essentially "re-training" her. Take her out often, and praise when she goes outside.
Also, like others mentioned, if she does pee on the carpet, clean it well. There's a pretty good chance another dog or cat peed there before her and the spot wasn't cleaned properly (with something like Nature's Miracle). |

| She's definitely more high strung about being in new places. just running around like a psycho sniffing everything. This place does a carpet cleaning for each unit after the prior tenant leaves so hopefully she wont potty over old potty spots of prior animals. I worry that she will take some time to adjust because she has had accidents at friends houses when we've brought her over to play with their dogs.
i guess based on the advice i will just be making many potty trips outside to essentially re-establish that going outside= reward. That shouldn't be too hard. I do worry about her adjusting and im hoping she stays quiet. the last thing i want is to have her whine and cry a lot the first week we're there. |

| I'm sure it will be a little bit of a learning period while she is adjusting. I get it for sure, Siku is the same way in new places, but the way I think about it to when we are moving is all of our furniture and everything is coming with us so its not like everything in completely unfamiliar, so I feel like that should help her some compared to when you take her to friends houses! |

| yep that is true. thanks for the tips. i have moved many times but never with a dog to an apartment so im nervous. And as you all know, huskies can have strong personalities which makes things interesting. My golden retriever was always obedient, quiet, laid back ect. Kiba's WILD lol. but its part of why i love huskies. guess well just see how it goes when i move in sept. |

| We moved house the start of July, both Sky and Phoenix had a set back. Sky was 6 months, totally clean and Phoenix was 3ish months, still having the odd accident.
We just went back to taking them out every hour, then 1 1/2 hours then 2 and now they pace by the door when they want out. They've had some accidents but nothing like when we first got them. We've been here 7 weeks tomorrow and had no accidents for over a week. Weirdly Sky was harder work than Phoenix
I just made sure I scrubbed where they went real good |

| Hey sounds like good progress for you guys so that's encouraging. I feel like its inevitable ...I just hope it doesn't last too long. She took a long time to catch on with potty training and now she's so good! |
