| Hi all,
So I took Link out this morning for his normal amount of exercise and then to a dog park where he ran around pretty good for about 45 minutes. He ate his normal food this morning, and nothing out of the ordinary since that I could tell.
Granted, he is unfortunately a puppy vaccum cleaner and inhales just about anything he can while out.
It is pretty warm out for Seattle, high 70's.
When we got home he proceeded to throw up 6 times, varying amounts each time. Two of them were big and chunky and clearly he was clearing out his stomach contents entirely. Some of the times it was just yellowish liquid and very small amounts.
He's pretty wiped out now and laying in front of the fan.
Should I try to feed him anything soon or wait until his normal.meal time at 7pm? Should I be on the look out for any particular signs of anything or do anything to counteract his heavy vomiting??
Thanks for your help. |

| Dizzy did that a few weeks ago and had diarrhea along with it. He threw up 6 times within an hour. I freaked out and took him to the e-vet only for them to tell me they thought he was fine (after some tests of course), said it could be an obstruction, but didn't think it was by the way he was acting. They gave him antibiotics, said to give him pepto, do no food for 24 hours and then bland diet. He doesn't do so well on the bland diet, so I just started him back on his reg food with pumpkin after the 24 hours. The antibiotics gave him diarrhea, but I diligently finished them off and about 24 hours after the last dose he was fine. A half tab of pepto should help Link with the vomiting. I would wait at least until his 7 pm meal to feed him. He probably just ran around too much after eating. |

| Dizzy's was triggered by a kangaroo tendon... He looks so sad when he's sick! |

| Kenzi isn't feeling good today either. Maybe it's something going around? I got home on my lunch break and her stomach was rolling loud enough I could hear it across the house. She went out and munched on some grass but she hasn't puked yet and probably won't. After a long belly rub I gave her a little frozen yogurt then headed back to work. Last time she had a belly ache that worked pretty well for her. _________________ |

| A kangaroo tendon, wow.
Thanks for the info Jen. I'm pretty convinced that it was just too much running around at the dog park and not to mention it is hot out. Link is not the best chewer so when he threw up the contents of his belly it was all almost fully in tact solids he ate, so they were bouncing around inside while he was playing.
There was a 5 month old scrappy OE Sheepdog at the park and they had a thorough romp.
He doesn't seem ill at all whatsoever and now he's just sleeping like normal like he would any day after the dog park/morning exercise.
I'll keep an eye on him for sure.
What worries me is that I am not used to him vomiting. He's 8 months old and since we got him he has only vomited twice before today and never this much, so it hit me emotionally kinda hard. It was so much. Ugh. |

| Link is a grass eater too Jenn, but he always does it and so I can't really associate it with a tummy issue today. He randomly takes chunks of bushes on walks too, he is seriously a puppy vacuum cleaner. |

| I still have some Pepcid AC from his Spider bite, do you think that would help at all? |

| Hmm. Do you think he ate some grass that was sprayed with pesticides? If you want, it is safe to give him some pepto bismol. 1 teaspoon per 20 pounds is okay every 6 hours. http://www.walkervalleyvet.com/otc-meds.htm I would wait until his normal meal time. Let him have access to all of the water he needs, though. I'm sure you'll keep a close eye on him! Just watch for any odd behavior. Edit: My link has some doses for the Pepcid! |

| I'm not sure about pepcid, but I think it would help settle his stomach. He's probably fine though. That was the first time Dizzy had ever thrown up too, so I totally freaked out. For some reason last night, he puked in the middle of the night, but we went hiking yesterday so I assumed he ate some dirt or something, yes he eats dirt, along with everything else, so I can totally relate to the puppy vacuum cleaner... He's at daycare today and I haven't heard from them and I'm sure they would have called if he threw up. |

| Ok great Link Jackie thanks so much. There would be no way of knowing if he ate pesticides, unfortunately.
Given our normal route though: 4 blocks through our n'hood, 10 minute bus ride, another 4 blocks, artificial soccer field, dog park, and back, it is unlikely. |

| He finally woke up from his midday slumber and chewed on a bone for a while, just took him out and his poop was totally normal. I feel better now that I have seen that. Looks to be a one off issue.
Thanks everybody for the help. |

| Lucian has this auto-eject stomach. Even if he eats the smallest amount of something he shouldn't, he will proceed to throw up several times in a row until EVERYTHING is out. He chewed on his toy bin once, very small pieces which would have passed out the other end no problem. But he threw up like 6 or 7 times until every little piece was out. Same thing happens if he drinks too much pop someone spilled in the grass. So maybe Link ate something, or drank something that his tummy just didn't like. |

| Yeah, its so hard to say cause he constantly picks things up. Kinda frustrating.
They can voluntarily vomit at will, yeah?? I wonder if they vomit just to comfort themselves. |

| I don't think it's voluntary. Just his tummy saying "oh no, I don't think so, this needs to go!" Lol. He's eaten crayons before, and never threw those up, pooped them out the next day. |

| They will vomit anytime there is something irritating the GI tract - are you 100% positive your dog park wasn't sprayed? Or that he didn't eat feces? Or something dead?

| No, I can't be positive. But considering that I am always near him when he picks stuff up and after inspecting his vomit pretty thoroughly, I have nothing to suggest he ate anything dead. His vomit was treats and veggies and grass and what is just the raw food he eats as far as I can tell.
If was a thing he ate it was tiny and undetectable. If it was a toxin...then I can't see evidence of that. Hopefully, maybe, it was full belly + heat + romp + running....assuming that that is even a possibility. |

If Lucian got wound up after eating when he was younger he would get sick. The heat got to him last week too. He was outside playing with my brother in law for an hour, fed him dinner an hour or two later. Two hours later it all came back up. It was all just food, and I know he hadn't gotten into anything. Plus it was the only time I wasn't vigilant about him going in the house to cool off in the AC. My poor guy still has 95% of his puppy fur, and it is thick. So I make sure if it's 80 or above he goes in the house to cool off. |
