Hey guys! I just read over a post about crate anxieties and I picked up a few things but my situation is slightly different. I'm a full time student but this semester is going to be pretty light so it'll only be an hour or so at a time. He can be alone, uncrated for a few minutes at a time but then he freaks out. He used to do just fine but one day I came home and there was a hole in my wall and my door frame was demolished so I had to start crating him. He had a pure wire kennel and I'd find ways to keep him in it while I was gone but then he'd find a way out. One day I came home from dinner with a friend and he had gotten out, demolished my couch, knocked stuff over, tore up a wicker basket and chewed up my window sill. Sometimes he can go to my neighbor's when I'm gone but she's trying to find a job and I don't feel right asking her to watch him all day starting in the spring when I student teach. My friends have agreed to help me by chilling if they aren't in class or if I student teach in town (50/50 chance), I can come let him out at lunch. He eventually demolished his wire kennel and my mom bought a plastic one that dogs aren't supposed to be able to get out of. I had a roommate for a few months and we both left one day. She got back before I did and he had gotten out. He's been going to my mom's lately but my stepdad is being a jerk about it. I took him there when I went to church this morning and my stepdad said I cant do that anymore because apparently my super submissive dog is trying to dominate their dog. I've watched these two interact and their dog instigates all of the issues (except when mine just wants to play) but my stepdad won't listen. So now I have to find a way to get him in the kennel. I've tried tying it shut but he always finds ways to get the door off. I start school in 2 weeks so I have to hurry! I've been able to desensitize him to go in there but I can't get him to go in there and shut the door. Is there a way that I can get him to stay in his kennel or stay out of his kennel without demolishing stuff? I love my dog and I don't want an hour here and there or one semester to be a problem. My fiance and I are looking at houses with yards so I just have to make it through the year. Please help!
