Hi, I am new to this forum. We have recently got a puppy husky he is 11 weeks old. We are thinking of getting a kennel in the back garden and putting him on a long chain so he can freely walk around the garden without escaping because he loves being outside plus we work and don't like the thought of him being shut up in a crate and kitchen all day although we do come home in lunch hour. We have read that huskys should not be on a chain??? but we feel it would be worse for him to be stuck indoors in the kitchen and crate. Please could you give us some advice. Any suggestions would be welcome.

why not build him a kennel run so he doesn't have to be on a chain?

11 weeks is far to young to be left outside unattended. He is just too small. You are better off putting him in a crate in the kitchen where he can't hurt himself, and nothing can hurt him. Crates are not cruel when used correctly. Tying a dog outside and leaving him unattended in my opinion isn't ever a good idea. Just too much that could go wrong.

I agree, right now he is too young to be outside alone. If your garden is too small for a run, I would suggest using a trolley system. Worked great for my old Rottie. Now I have a run for my huskies. But I recommended this for another person on the forum, I suggest you check it out as an option for when your pup is a few months older! Good Luck! http://www.unchainyourdog.org/Trolley.htm
