Okay I went and checked out the new boarder. I like her she is a retired lady who has and may still show handle (goldens), but she breeds(champion goldens) and grooms also. www.laurellgoldens.com
The actual location looks good and until I really get to know her we are okay with a trial run of boarding. Just a small weekend trip in August.

So I started researching more about her and I find what I think is a good breeder of show dogs but know nothing of show. Can you guys tell me what some of these abbreviations mean?

I just think this all sounds like she is a good breeder but am not sure I see she has eye heart hip and elbow clearances she has here dogs in the k9 pedigree info....

So I think this means that since is not a fly by night (I know she has been around awhile). Basically this is a small kennel that she has because she has her goldens. She also does grooming so we will eventually find out if she could handle Bourbon.

Any advise? Any body see anything wrong?

The main office entrance is the grooming studio and off of that is the kennel she only take maximun=m 10 dogs as she has her own. I walked the kennels inside and they were indoor outdoor runs plus a 6ft privacy fence play yard. I mentioned that I was looking at the tall fence and she piped up fencing was a big issue for huskies.(so it sounds like she might be into goldens but knows dogs. The kennel run area had a bit of a urine odor but it was minor and I assume when you have 10-15 dogs in one area you seem their pee. This seems simliar to the kennels at my vet which seemed of medicinal cleaners. So.....just looking for some advise and comments.

Are you looking for a handler or a place to board your dog? or both?
I can help interpret the abbreviations:
CH = champion
BIS = best in show
BISS = best in specialty show
AM CAN BDA JPN INT = These are countries where the dog is titled: American, Canadian, (not sure about BDA), Japan, and INT probably means international
OD OS = outstanding dam and outstanding sire
SDHF = show dog hall of fame

Her kennel set up sounds decent and fairly typical of show kennels.

She does hips/elbows/eyes/heart. If you click on the individual dogs and then on their pedigree, she has the info listed there. You can always go to the OFA database and look it up too.

I can't speak to her handling skills, but she's probably decent with that many wins. BUT, that doesn't mean she will do well with a husky. They belong to a different group and will have judges she may not know. A lot of this is knowing the judges and who likes what and who to avoide, etc...

Sorry I am gonna try her for boarding and evwntually maybe grooming. Thanks for helping w the abbrev. Just tryong to find out if there are good points to her. I realize none of it might work based on her being goldens not huskies but I figure a good start that ahe is the dog world and not clueless

I'm sure she would be fine for boarding, maybe just ask about her husky experience. It sounds like her kennel has a pretty good setup. Do the runs have ceilings or are they open on top? That would be my only worry. For grooming, do you mean a bath/blow dry and or show grooming? I'm sure she's excellent at both, but again ask her about her husky experience.

THE RUNS are in a fenced area then the run itself is fence...not sure of the ceiling but outdoor portion doesnot have a ceilng but it does have a portico style roof/over hang and inside they have the bldg ceiling.

The groom would be wash brush dry type thing.
She does have some husky knowledge but I am gonna ask about the experience. I think this will be better than the vet boarding where they are alone alor and better than the commercial chain boarding places.
I still like our Petsuites doggiea resorr but they are expensive but they get a lot of exercise there. Plus This is just down the road from home. Low stress drop off pickup then.

I think she sounds great and would probably do an even better job grooming than a groomer. After meeting some show folks, they are amazing at grooming and perfectionists! They also have awesome products, just make sure she knows not to shave them, although she would probably be insulted by the question lol. I would love to have something like this close by. The nice thing too is that you know that she will be the one caring for your pups, not some young employee (like at most of the big places). You might ask her if she is insured. I'm not sure what the laws/requirements are in your state, but in nyc most dog walkers are bonded and insured, so that if there is an issue, they are covered.

Good call on the insurance:scratch:  ....she did ask and log who our vet is and asked if she could take them there if needed. Yeah she might not be a husky person but I like all the other considerations. Last boarder's place I checked out had me crying from the over powering ammonia odor. And as you said w our Petsuites it is a young kid handling them.

One thing to check on is her availability. It sounds like she is out a lot going to shows and probably has a person to help out with the rest of the kennel when she's gone.
Also, another thing to keep in mind is that your dog probably won't get much one on one attention when boarding. Of course that's true with most boarding kennels.
Since she shows goldens, she's likely quite capable to do the grooming, especially since it's just the regular stuff.

I am still learning about Laura even though I met her when I checked out the kennel. It seems like she has someone else handle her dogs now (she co/owns some with this woman) and I know she retired but from what handling? I believe. She still breeds them and I know she is the president of the local chapter of the golden club equvilant to the SHCA. She is the one that does the grooming but I think I will double check this. She built a kennel on her property (she can walk from house to kennel) and when I was there she was the only employee. (She only does 10 dogs at a time.) I will check with her regarding the time she is actually around. I know her husband is co breeder and owner of many of the dogs but it sounds like it is her passion and her kennel. (she actually asked me never to come before 8 am or late at night.) She has had some people expect 530 am and 1130 pm work just becasue she is onsite. HeeHEE.

As far as the one on one I do not expect ot get that here. That is more the comercial chain we use and we have had success there for longer boarding. I do not think I need to pay as much for a wknd board as I usually tire them out before hand and expect lunatics when I get home. Plus my 3 play well together so when they get to socialize/potty at the same time they are happy. Plus she gives credit for you bringing your dogs food (which I always do) and realizes that she will pay the same utilites for her dog wether she takes mine in or not and that she is down there to groom and/or visit her dogs anyways. Plus I saw about 5 show/breeding dogs, 4 boarding dogs, 3 grooming dogs, and saw a very happy return boarding client when I was there.
