Hey everyone,
Just as a quick little note this is my first post other than my introduction.  We take Bandit and LadyBug with us almost everywhere we go and lately I have been observing more and more people letting their dogs off leash in public and not watching them and when I politely tell them that our dogs are not big fans of strange dogs they just say oh well mine is and it should be fine. Unfortunately our babies like any and all other huskies that they meet but no matter how much we have tried they just don't like others and we are responsible and make sure that we don't let them off leash in public places. But I just don't understand how people can just ignore us I am only trying to protect their dogs. We have tried and are still trying all kinds of things to socialize them especially LadyBug since she is still a puppy but she just likes what and who she likes and doesn't want anything to do with what she doesn't. I also want to make clear that they aren't aggressive and will ignore the other dogs as long as they aren't bothering them or us. One quick example. We went hiking with them and had a wonderful day and as we were hiking out at the trail head a man was standing chatting with his 100lb boxer next to him not on a leash or even paying attention to him. and when we were approaching his dog charged at me and them, and the man had the absolute nerve to yell at me when his dog attacked bandit and Bandit defended himself. Just needed to vent about it Smile

Speaking of venting about irresponsible dog owners..

There is this lady who comes to our local dog park. She has 6 dogs and has no place having that many dogs because she can't control any of them. All she does is yell at them and LOUDLY. (Everyone at the dog park avoids sitting next to her because of this, she yells at her dogs a lot). A few of her dogs have decided they don't like Shaqua and if I'm there and they show up they immediately start chasing her down and ganging up on her. What does she do? Yell... obnoxiously and loudly.

Much less to say most of us leave the dog park soon after she shows up....

We live in a condominium complex and we have so many people that could just care less about their dogs being on a leash. The hardest part is that I work in the office and when I'm not "at work" I feel like I can't say anything to these people. One of the dogs is severely aggressive and went after one of my neighbors. Bane is overly friendly, but he's ALWAYS on his leash as is Willow. My neighbor is just rude; she has a Malamute x Border Collie who never gets taken out for works and always just opens the door, lets her dog go run out to the grass patch and potty. I cannot stand rude people who don't give two craps about their pets. The upstairs neighbor and I were talking about the leash "law" that we have and leash laws are there for a reason and people need to understand that.

^ That is just sick. -_-

It just annoys me when people let their dogs run loose in the neighborhood. When I'm walking my dog on his leash, I don't want to feel paranoid every corner I turn thinking some huge dog is going to come barreling out to attack my puppy. People just need to learn to respect the leash laws or at least have their dogs under voice control (and supervised!) if they're going to be loose.

Wow. There is a rule at our dog park that one adult can have up to two dogs only. I would check with your rules. You can have a Sheriff escort her out if she is violating the rules.

I was thinking the same thing. Who even needs to go to the dog park if you have 6 dogs anyway!?

Professional dog walkers. They are everywhere in Seattle (more dogs than kids here and people spend good $ on them) and most parks have laws against them, but some don't. If you go to these there is a pile of 12-15 leashes at the entrance and one person for all these dogs. It's chaos. Needless to say these dogs are unsupervised and understimulated and there is no accountability for their bothersome, dangerous behaviors. We had an encounter with a lady recently with 12 dogs, and it got ugly. Ruined our trip out there.

I actually ended up telling the crazy woman on our street today that we would not be responsible for what might happen if her unleashed dog charged me or my dogs again. My husband and his family have lived on our street with huskies for 27 years and we are so sick of people that just move in and think they make the rules

It is a never ending story with that kind of dog owners. It pisses me off nearly every day. Either it´s aggressive dogs, dogs that don´t follow their owners commands one bit etc.
With a guide dog there are really alot of annoying situations with other dogs and their owners. Eben if we go for walks I´m not really into contact with other dogs anymore, because most of the time it is trouble.

There's a bunch of people in my neighborhood that don't obey the leash laws. Drives me insane. I don't get what is so hard for them to understand. It's safer for everyone, especially the pet on leash. One woman who lives down the street from me learned her lesson the hard way. I seen her everyday walking her yorkshire terrier off leash. She did this for a number of years. One day the dog ran out in the street in front of a truck. Now she has two other dogs, and they are always on leash. It's a shame she had to lose a dog to learn a lesson. Only time Lucian is off leash is in my own fenced backyard, or at the dog park.

Last night I came within inches of running over my neighbor's little dog. I was coming down the hill on my road around 25 mph and there he was. Then the damn dog just sat there in front of my car for what seemed like forever before it slowly sauntered a bit to the side. I very slowly went around it, keeping my eye on it the entire time. Then the neighbor came out and was giving ME the evil eye.

Given we live in a county with no leash laws there really isn't a lot we can do. I'm the 'weird' one who built a fence and kennel system for my dogs. I can't tell you how many dogs I've seen killed on the side of the road, how many have terrorized my dogs from the other side of the fence, chased my horses, etc. Those that are hard pressed to learn not to terrorize my animals are getting paintballed these days.

I've had the same problem and the fact my dogs bigger means mine will get blamed....I made a Craigslist ad listing my neighborhood and citing the Orange county leash laws. I also added I walk my dogs in the am and won't be responsible for what happens defending my dogs
