| It'd be interesting to see how comparable the laws are in other states and what repercussions there could be for a puppy mill putting a feather in their cap and calling themselves a Hobby Breeder. |

| We're pretty sure that Reba was a mother used to breed puppy mill huskies. https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.577214628979595.1073741832.287714381262956&type=3 She used to pee and defecate on herself out of fear. She does not trust humans, although she has taken a treat or two out of someone's hand. Her muscles are all soft, due to being kept in a kennel for long periods of time. She is in a medical foster facility and being cared after daily. She is doing a lot better. She goes to a foster home next week. We're hoping that she will learn to gain our trust back. It will be a very very very long time, but we won't lose hope! |

| Jackie, I just, I want to hug her and never let her go.
PETA is terrible, horrible, evil. They are part of the problem, not the solution. |

| We have been dealing with structural issues, immune system problems, GI issues, and general behavior "idiosyncrasies" with Rodeo from day 1. He was a Petland puppy who found himself at animal control. _________________ Force Free Training ThreadCheyenne, Mishka, Mickey, Rodeo, & Odin Are you a Husky owner in South Florida?! | We have a lot of people fighting the pet stores here, but I can't allow myself to get involved because I know about the ties to AR. I do however call when I see an issue and I FREQUENTLY call from one of the many lines at my office and ask for breeder information. I actually caught one pet store selling from a breeder that is not licensed - and it's illegal to do so here. |

| There's a Petland in my area too and I was doing some research on it and found out they buy puppies from http://www.thehuntecorporation.com/ which is the middleman between pet stores and puppy mills. http://www.thepuppymillproject.org/amw-hunte-corporation/
When we were looking for our first Husky, we went to Petland just to play with the Husky puppy they had, since I had never seen one in person before. The black.white male pup we played with was sick and they still let us see him and said they would even sell him to us while sick. I can't remember their exact asking price, but I know it was over $1,200 which is outrageous for a sick poor quality pup. |

| We have one in Orlando called just puppies they say they are a "puppy boutique" I've never stepped foot in there but they tried to charge $3000 for a doberman puppy my friend wanted because she had "champion lines" ... thankfully she never got it |

| They were charging $1200 for huskies at our local pet store here and i actually met up with a guy who bought one. They were the same age as Kiba when i got her so his female husky is about the same age but was 20lbs heavier and pretty far out of standard when i met this guy at the dog park. He actually asked me if Kiba was a husky (DOH!). I see people buy dogs from this place all the time and it just makes me so sad because you know that they came from a puppy mill : ( I also recently saw a new BYB that popped up about 5 miles away from my house selling his husky puppies on CL. the adult dogs he has don't even look healthy in any of the pictures and i just want to shake this guy because there's already enough huskies on CL and in shelters. |

| There are a couple pet stores near me (one in Lincoln and one in Council Bluffs[that I know of]). I went to the one in Council Bluffs and just looked around and the puppies were SO SMALL. They couldn't of been more then 5 weeks old. Some people were there getting googly eyed over them, so I took that opportunity to educate them. Got myself kicked out of the store, but they didn't buy that puppy that day.
The AR thing for me is double edged sword. While I don't support PETA or HSUS in any way, shape, or form; I cannot NOT do anything. There have been protests started at the Lincoln pet store, and I joined one week. It really wasn't that bad. We just stood, held signs, and educated people who went in. I am just really unsure of what I can support these days and how to go about supporting them. Until I get my own moral line about the issue drawn, I will do what I can to educate others and to get them shut down. |

| Some of the groups I hung out with in Pensacola protested the Petland there from time to time. I never had a chance to go out there, but I definitely feel you on wanting to do something to help. And good on you for speaking up in the store. The more you tell people, the more they will go out and tell other people. I went into that Petland once when I was a flight student in Pensacola, and was pretty much horrified by what I saw. And that was before I knew anything about puppy mills and pet store dogs too. I dragged my (now ex) boyfriend out of there and told him not to ever get a puppy like that. He wound up rescuing a Cavalier King Charles not long after Kelsey, how far are you from Offutt AFB? I used to fly out of there constantly, and I snuck out to the Barnes and Noble in Council Bluffs one time to replace the Nook I broke while on deployment. I actually like that area a lot. _________________ Shadow's Blog Canine Hydrocephalus Support on Facebook "Being the parent of a special-needs pet means living your life constantly poised on the edge of a double-edged sword. | I wasn't saying to do nothing - I was just saying to be guarded because the AR people are the same people who will give your dogs pills to euthanize them when you aren't looking. That happens. |

| Questions about HSUS: I pretty much have read about the psychotic-ness of PETA and how they never actually adopt out from their shelters ect but this is the first ive read about HSUS being bad too. Can anyone post an article about them? What exactly are they doing that is bad? Here's the thing- ive always tended to think of them as like hand-in-hand with the SPCA and rescue organizations. Is HSUS private? Govt funded? I'm very curious. Dont get me wrong here, i'm open minded about things like this and simply want to be more educated.
To me, its little like when you see people who "rescue" animals and on the outside they seem to have a sanctuary, a bleeding big heart and a great purpose. but then you find out later that they are just sick animal hoarders. I think that if HSUS really IS like PETA than i kind of have that dissapointed disgusting same feeling : ( |

| Oh no I totally understand what you are saying Megan. I did my senior paper over the AR movement. I have so much more to learn though. I don't really know how to go about doing anything else or digging into the breeders they are getting their dogs from. I'm sure it's not that hard to figure out though. Meredith, I am about an hour and a half away from Omaha . I loove Omaha. |

| Thanks for the link. I gather their biggest offense is lining their pockets with insane amts of donor money instead of actually donating it to shelters for the animals. That's what I got from the site. Very interesting and disappointing. |

| I went on my local Petland's website and noticed they had a Boxer puppy on there w/the "breeders" name on it. I started googling and found a site I've never seen before and it's so sad. It list's the "breeders" kennel and which pet shop the puppy came from and the health. It's so sad how sick these puppies are!

This is the boxer "breeder" info page. If you go to the bottom it say's how many puppies and adults they have during the different years. Over 100 adults at one point. Crazy ...

| Lets see if I can phrase this correctly. Head on protests of the BYB and puppy mills and pet stores has its place and I believe (just a hunch) a limited success. The target I look for is the well meaning consumer who doesn't know or doesn't understand that dealing with the above mentioned people is causing harm. The real way to defeating poor breeders is to dry up there market. Educate the public and things will improve. Also, if they are not heart set on a puppy, steer them towards a rescue, and rescues need to be more open to the idea that good people do exist and they may not believe everything the rescue does. |
