| My four month old husky swallowed a sock as I tried chasing him to get it out of his mouth. Will he be alright? Im stressing out over this like the worried mother I am. |

| You're probably going to have to go to the vet. It is probably going to have to be an operation to remove it. The sock will end up obstructing bowel movements, and constipate your puppy. I am sorry to hear this , keep us updated with what happens. |

| How long ago did it happen? You can give them 1tsp oh Hydrogen Peroxide for every 10lbs the dog weighs and it will make them throw up anything they've eaten recently. |

| I hope the poor guy will be alright! Unfortunately Yuki swallowed a lot of socks when she was at her old pet setters. My house was pretty much child-proofed but twice a week when I got home she was throwing up some kind of fabric. Many vet visits later (and thankfully no operations needed), I learned she was eating my pet sitter's children's socks! I had warned her ahead of time but apparently she didn't know how sneaky husky puppies were. Needless to say I didn't take her back there and Yuki was thankfully fine, keep an eye on him for now and a vet visit is definitely the best bet for the reasons Lucy has stated above. |

| I would try it, personally. If he doesn't throw it up after trying that, definitely take him to the vet. |

| I hope everything works out okay for your pup. And just a heads up in the future, when you see that he has something potentially dangerous or off limits, don't chase him or make a big deal out of it.
Get something for him to eat that you can trade, and work on "drop." Something will instantly make him forget about the sock...etc.
Chasing only makes them panic and swallow faster.
Best of luck. |

Best of luck. Agreed. I called it the grab and gulp. Similar to the scarf and barf move that my cats do. |

| My own problem was he swallowed the cat tpys in the 8 seconds it took to go to the fridge for the high powered treat. I can't chase him, he'll bounce away as a game, I cant go get a treat, he swallows it too fast. I keep the toys upstairs where he isnt allowed but the cats carry them downstairs and I notice after the dog does. Hes swallowed 4 and only one has come back out so far. 1 was small stuffed mouse, not as worried about that since its all fluff. 2 is a hair scrunchy my cats stole as a toy. the 3 rd was a plastic bauble. So far, his BM have been regular, no conctipation. hes got a vet appointment tommorow for puppy shots, so I'll be checking in with my vet then.
Any suggestions for a puppy that swallows bad things before you can get a treat to trade? |

| Regularly working on drop it, and keep treats nearby, or in your pocket all the time. When Dizzy was at that stage, I didn't leave anything out and thankfully didn't have the problem of the cats leaving stuff around, my biggest issue was on walks, he would pick up random crap on the street. I'm still not quick enough sometimes, but just keep something in your pocket, even if its not the most high value treat, at least its something, or you could leave little containers in easy to reach places around the house. I have a little soap dish with some treats on our entertainment center. |

| Nanook just did this TWICE last week and I made him puke them up. He use to be really good at trading for a treat but for some reason he has started getting an attitude about trading and refuses, swallows as fast as possible. The first time the kids told me after the fact so I do not know how long it was before I gave him peroxide but it worked. He only just started doing this, he never had interest in them before but he went from no interest to CRAZY for socks over night I hope you get it out |

| I can't leave lots of food around due to cats who will try to it only to have surprise later, so I keep treats in a baggy, but also keep lots of toys up higher. My puppy will usually drop something for a toy too. Hope all is well with Benny! |

| Thank you Jen-san for the great tip. I also have to be careful about leaving food around because of the cats. Genji in particular is an evil genius who can get into a lot of containers and he's diabetic so he can't. But with a secure enough container, I think a few caches of treats will really help. |

| Good news! First, my vet tech agreed that as long as he was still eating fine and wasn't constipated, we didn't need to do anything at this point but keep an eye on him. Well, this morning I hear the sound of an animal about to get sick and find him puking up all three toys!
Then he immediately re-eats one despite my best efforts. But thanks to this thread, I tried the Hydrogen Peroxide and within a few minutes he puked that one up too. So at the moment, there is nothing in my dog's stomach that shouldn't be there! |

| One thing I found that can work is to "play dead'. Or curl yourself into a ball and cry, very loudly! Most times the dog will come to you to see what is going on! You then have a chance to grab him!! |
