| Maya is 10 weeks and I switched her food from the breeder during the first week. I did it slowly and she did fine with it, but now two weeks later all of her bowel movements are loose or just liquid. I took her to the vet for her round of shots and when I brought it up the vet didn't seemed concerned. But this has been going on for a week and a half and I'm at my wits end. I've tired everything. Is it her puppy food? Should I switch it? Do you have any brand recommendations?I have her an iams high protein puppy food, when I do food her she eats it right up! She plays normal, sleeps well, and doesn't act like anything is wrong. |

| Yeah, puppy diarrhea is just SO much fun... First, I would take a stool sample to the vet to rule out any issues. My puppy had the same problem and it turned out to be a parasite. Once he took the meds he pretty much, mostly got better. From your post it sounds like she had normal firm stools on the new food, and then, suddenly, she is having issues. If that is the case, I tend to think it is an infection. If parasites/infections/worms are ruled out by a test, I would first cut out any treats for 48 hours and see if that helps. My little guy continued to have loose stools off and on after his meds and it turned out to be one specific type of treat he was reacting to. I only found out because I cut treats out for 48 hours, then slowly started using them again one at a time to figure out which ones were messing with him, this also told me, it wasn't what I was feeding him because his stool firmed up when off the treats. If cutting out everything but his food doesn't work, it could be a couple of things. First, you could be feeding too much (quantity) at one time. If I don't split his meals into 3-4 small quantities, he gets a loose stool every time. He is starting to self regulate and doesn't always finish everything I give him, like he did at first, so this is getting easier. Second, it could be that the food just doesn't work for her. Huskies are known for sensitive stomachs, so she could have an issue with the food. I would switch as a last resort, because if you continue to try food after food and nothing helps, you might delay finding the root of the issue if its an infection or something else. Plus, it will take longer for her stomach to settle this way. I can't comment on the specific type of food, I feed my puppy raw, but if you check http://www.dogfoodadvisor.com/ it will give you a lot of information on it and other. Good luck! |

| Iams isn't really a good food for her. I was feeding Lucian Iams to start with too, and he didn't do so well on it. So I switched him to Earthborn holistic puppy vantage. He does great on it. |

| I havent given her treats in awhile, so I know for sure that its not the treats. I have also cut back on feeding her for a day and that seemed to help. I also read that feeding them rice and boiled beef or chicken may help and I tried that. She didn't have diarrhea with that which is what is leading me to think its the food. I will try reducing the quantities and feed her 3-4 times a day and see if that makes any difference. Hopefully!
I was in the pet store earlier today to see if they had any knowledge and they said Blue Buffalo(i think?) or Earthborn are probably my best bet if the food is causing her problem. |

| Overfeeding can cause diarrhea also, how much are you feeding?
It seems odd to me if she was fine on the food but now suddenly isn't. Regardless, as has been said Iams isn't a particularly good food to begin with. There are so many good foods out there we'd be here forever if we tried to list them all. In the end, it's all trial and error to find the food that works best for your dog. _________________ |

This is why I think it would be worth while to get a stool test done. |

| Thanks for all the responses guys! I think I may have been over feeding her. I have decreased her portion size and feed her throughout the day now. It seems to be working, her poo for the most part was solid which is a big improvement! I also discovered she was chewing on some old gross wood that has been sprayed numerous times with weed chemicals. I removed those from the yard and I'm hoping that will help as well if that would have any effect on it.. As far as food goes I'm going to finish out the rest of the iams and then switch her to BB. Hopefully it was just overfeeding her, if there isn't any more improvement tomorrow, I will be taking a stool sample to the vet. You guys are the best!! |

| I would start switchr her over withthe iams.. You want to transition her slowly. Mix 3/4 of the iams with 1/4 of the BB then few days later got 1/2 and 1/2 then after that 1/4 iams and 3/4 bb then all bb.. You want a slow tranistion or she will just have loose stools again |

| Hello. I was in the same boat with my little one. Stool samples were negative for parasites and intermittent runny stools. The breeder had him on Purina, gradually transitioned him to Avoderm and still intermittent runny stools. After much research I decided to try grain-free. Completely stopped the Avoderm and fed him some boiled chicken, white rice and about a tablespoon of pumpkin puree each feeding for about 2-3 days until I started getting firm stools. Then I gradually started adding Taste of the The Wild Pacific Stream Puppy (TOTW) food and continued monitoring his stools until he was just on the TOTW. He's been on it for about a month now and no more runny stools. I hope this helps. |

| That is weird how she keeps relapsing after a few days of firm poos. Take her to the vet for a stool sample. If she has parasites, then treat her as directed (hoping the parasites go away and she feels better). If it's not parasites... I would feed her a bland diet for a few days - 3 eggs (scrambled) and 1/3 cup of green beans/carrots, twice a day. A tablespoon of pumpkin will also be beneficiary (not the pie filling!). She could firm up after the first poop - this is good! Keep feeding it for a few days to clear her system. TOTW (taste of the wild) is well recommended in my household - I have two huskies and they're both doing well on it. I would get the Pacific Salmon, but there are other flavors as well. Good luck! It is painful to see our furkids get sick. |

| She went to the vet yesterday. They have her amoxicillin twice a day as well as diarsanyl twice a day until the stool sample results get back. So far the medicines have seemed to help. |

| Just got home and had a call from the vet. They said they didn't find anything out of order with the stool sample. So now I'm not sure what to do :/ |

| Well I'm not sure why the vet would put her on antibiotics when they aren't needed. It's not going to help her stomach any. In fact, quite the contrary, I'd be concerned that the antibiotics will kill off the necessary good bacteria in her gut and possibly make her tummy issues worse. _________________ |

| I'm not sure either. He has been my family's vet for every animal we have had. So I'm just going to trust him on this. I've started switching her to blue buffalo instead of the Iams. Hopefully the food is just the source of the problem. Should I try the bland diet mentioned above while she's on the medicine or wait until she's done with the meds? |

| Has Maya been dewormed recently? Panacur C is a dewormer that is quiet versatile when it comes to curing parasites. You can order it online without a prescription and would be a handy product to have around for a young puppy! Anya is on Panacur for Giardia right now. The vet prescribed metro for her but it causes strange side affects so I switched her to Panacur.
Also, I wonder if she is allergic to grain? |

| Well something is obviously not working and it sounds like the meds are only acting as a temporary band-aid rather than solving anything. Did you ever try her on a bland diet? I'd try that first then find another food that you'd like to try her on and slowly transition her onto that and see how it goes. _________________ |

| My boy has been on TOTW Pacific puppy stream for about a week now, and he's only 8 weeks. His stools are still kind of loose, but it goes back and forth from firm to loose each day. I'm going to tough it out with the TOTW for now, but if I don't see any progress over the next 2 weeks, I'll probably try BB or something else grain-free. It just sucks because he's starting to really like the TOTW now. At first, he wouldn't touch it. |

| My pup is 5 months and she has had a very similiar problem. We had several stoll samples and they came back negative of any issues. The vet said Huskies generally have looser stools. She put her on Tylan Powder and it has worked like magic. [url= ] |

| Hi All, I have just joined the forum today. I have had Schumi for about 7 weeks now and Iv been going through the exact thing, and still going. Taken him to the vet, was told to put him on chicken and rice that didn't work. He ended up pooing worse then before it was water like stool. Took him back to the vet and a sample was taken and tested. Came back with some parasite, so he was put on antibiotics. His on a vet recommended food (Eukanuba Intestinal Plus) he was doing very well on this food, while on the antibiotics, the stool was soft but a lot better. Now his off the antibiotics, the runny stool is back. Iv tried fasting him for a day, that didn't work. Iv cut back his feeding portions, still not working. Taken out all treats yet still no change. Added probiotics to his food for a day and this didn't work (may have to try for more days) Im taking him back to the vet this weekend, as I am getting very worried about his weight. He is growing so fast and he looks so skinny. I am all out of ideas what to do. I am so worried, any suggestions will be very welcome. By the way, I live in Australia so some food produce may not be available here. Cheers Vivian |
