| We have been crate training titan for about a week now. She has been doing great, just whining a little here or there after she gets let out. Last night was horrible! we put her to bed about 10:00 and around 12:00 she was whining much louder then she normally does and for much much longer. She whined for 20 minutes straight and didnt show any sign of stopping. I went to her crate and waited for her to break in her whining and I let her out thinking maybe she just has to go to the bathroom or something. She went pee, I took her back in and put her back in the kennel. She whines for about another 20 minutes and I finally just got up and played with her until she got tired and put her back in there and she was fine. (i know this is a bad thing to do but she didnt sound like she was ever going to stop whining and chewing on her crate). I went back to sleep and around 4:50 this morning i woke up again to her whining out of control and being crazy. At this point I waiting about 10 minutes and she wouldnt stop so I just got up and started my day.
I know your not suppose to take them out of the crate, but after 20 minutes of whining i just felt like something was wrong with her. Is it normal for a puppy to whine that long? It is just odd behavior on her part because she has never done this.

Haha o its normal. Karli's first night in the crate was horrible. She whined all night. And cried and howled. I felt really bad. The thing is if you let her out when she whines, she's going to think she can do it all the time. How often is she in the crate during the day? We started feeding Karli in her crate and that really helped her to adjust to it. We also would put her in it a couple times a day while we were home so that she would know that we weren't always leaving when we put her in there. Night time was easy after the first night so it just takes time and patience.

Where is the crate? My pups crate is in the same room as our bed. The first few nights with Dizzy I slept next to the crate on the floor and stuck my fingers in when he got upset. He'd lick them and then go back to sleep. After a 3-4 really uncomfortable nights, I got sick of it, and just put in earplugs and went to bed. Lol. I set my alarm to wake me up a few times a night to take him out. I couldn't put any bedding in or he'd pee on it, but I put a stuffed animal in and he'd snuggle with it. It also helped to cover the crate. Your pup is so young though, you might have to wake up more often, every 2 hours maybe. I definitely recommend never playing with her in the middle of the night again, they form habits really easy and that would be a tough one to break down the line. I know it can be brutal to listen to them crying in the middle of the night, but they will stop eventually. If you play with her after she has cried for 20 minutes, and next time try to wait her out it stretch and eventually she'll cry for hours on end. Just be more stubborn than your puppy and remember as much of a terror as they can be, she's just a zygote lol.

Her kennel is in our bedroom and we put a blanket over it. She has never done this before and thats why im posting again. She normally isnt this bad at all. Last night was worse then any night we have had her ever! We thought about trying a fan like you had mentioned before Jen. We are gonna pick one up tonight. It just worried me that something might have been wrong because she has never even cried for 5 minutes, and she was still going crazy after 20 minutes.

Ah! I see. It might be that she is becoming more aware of her environment developmentally. I have noticed that as Dizzy gets older, he is more conscious of the world around him and what's going on. He has started pulling the towel through the crate to chew on it this week, and he had never done that before. She might be in a stage where her hearing and eyesight is getting sharper so she is reacting differently to things. I've read there is a stage from 4-6 months were they get more fearful of things and Dizzy has hit that phase. He spooks at things a little more often. Its interesting to see.

There are dogs in our neighborhood that bark and she will run to me and hide between my legs. Yesterday a plane flew over our house and she ran into the back door trying to get inside. She is a little scardey cat for sure!

Aw! Poor girl. How old is she now? 5 weeks? I think I read that is the initial fearful period, then they become fearless, and then go back into another fearful period at 4 months. I really love watching him learn and develop.

Yep! she has gotten so big! So you think I should try the fan trick you told me about? Also invest in some ear plugs?

I would say try the earplugs first. The only reason I did the fan, was because I thought he was hot. It was during a couple 90+ days we had in May and the ac wasn't working yet. It's kind of a crutch for him now, but it really helped. That could be something, do you think she might be too hot in there? Puppies don't regulate their temperature as well as adults.

Maybe try the fan on a low speed. I wouldn't worry about the panting, just let her drink extra water if she needs to.
