| Hi everyone, My name is Pauline and I am a new member here. I was happy to find this site through a craigslist suggestion while trying to find a husky in our area. We lost our 10 1/2 yr old girl Dakota a few months ago and we are finally ready to find a new baby to love. We are in the new england area and would be willing to travel within or just outside that area for the right dog. We are hoping to find a puppy under a year old and preferably female, but will consider others if they seem like a good fit for our family. Some important factors for us is that they are good with small children as I provide child care in my home to infants to pre-school aged children. We also have an older cat so no aggressive chasers, playing is ok as he is used to that. Please no health issues as we had a very hard winter watching our baby gradually lose her spirit to cancer. |

| Pauline I would search out some reputable breeders in your area. With having small children that aren't yours in your home I would certainly suggest getting a puppy that can be reared around younger children and cats. However that said you may need to search hard and speak with many about that. No one wants to set their puppy up for failure and some may find that a little too risky. I would start your search at SHCA.org (http://www.shca.org/shcahp4f.htm). That can help give your puppy the best start to life since health is a priority with most of these breeders.
I would encourage you to stay away from breeders who are not health testing their dogs (hips, eyes, and even thyroid) as well as ensure their "puppy program" is one full of socialization and desensitization. Most "Backyard breeders" as they are coined usually have not health tested their dogs and their rearing methods are sub par to say the least. _________________ Force Free Training ThreadCheyenne, Mishka, Mickey, Rodeo, & Odin Are you a Husky owner in South Florida?! | Kristina, Thanks for the reply. We actually do know about SHCA already and that is where we found our first husky. Unfortunately that breeder is no longer active and the breeders that are in our area don't have any litters ready right now. You are right about a breeder having doubts with our situation as we both know huskies are high energy and natural predators by instinct (our chipmunk population tripled this spring!), but she knew our cat was higher ranked in the pack because we taught her that. We did tons of research about the breed before we ever adopted and had a good idea of what we would should expect with training. We fully understood that patience is necessary and positive reinforcement gets the best response from huskies. I do believe that made a big difference in that Dakota was everything we had hoped for, affectionate, playful, gentle when she should be, protective when needed, intelligent (too much so sometimes) and loyal. We will keep up our search with breeders around the area but also hope that somebody may know that one dog in a situation that needs a new family and we will be here for her/him and ready to love them. By the way, that is a beautiful pack of huskies you have there. |

| 7 litters between now and October? Purposely breeding woolies? No hips? Sorry- I wouldn't purchase from them. If we're talking socialization and handling aspect purely- there's no time to properly devote enough individual attention to each puppy and give them the best start to life when you have that many litters at a time. Because of your situation with children I would not go to that breeder. _________________ Force Free Training ThreadCheyenne, Mishka, Mickey, Rodeo, & Odin Are you a Husky owner in South Florida?! | Hi Pauline. I purchased my little guy from Nando Siberians. She is located in Uxbridge, MA. I'm not sure if she has any puppies available now, but I believe there was a little born on May 7. She tests hips and eyes, and shows. I suggest going to her website and filling out an application if you are interested. I live in a small apartment and have 2 cats, but I had a siberian before as well, she was concerned about the apartment, however, I am a 5 minute walk from a huge park and spend a lot of time walking and running around the park with him. After filling out the application and speaking with her, she felt comfortable selling a puppy to me. Good luck! |
