So Kiya is 9 weeks old today, and I just wanted to run a few things by everyone.

When I got her on Friday, my breeder told me she has never been put on grass before, so I would be the first to do that. As awesome as that is, to be there for her first, Kiya literally eats an estimated of 5 handfuls of a grass a day. No it isn't because she is bored. We play all day, and night, as well as take 10 minute walks every hour. The rest of the time she is usually zonked out. My question here, is the grass. We will get outside, and she will immediately start eating grass and sometimes dirt. In fact, she goes at it like a Mad Hatter. Diving at it, like a swallow bird will dive at someone if they are near it's nest. I know her stomach isn't upset because she eats the right portions, and the right food. Is this normal? Is it because it is within her first 5 days of being home and being able to be on grass?


She hatessssssssss card rides. She has her own seat belt, but it sounds like I am torturing her when we are moving. She screams, and tries very hard to get up front, but can' t cause of the restraint. When I brought her home, I sat in the back seat with her. The whole way home she would crawl under my back, and would stay there between me and the seat. When we are home, and she is playing, and gets tired, she does the same thing. She immeditaley runs right behind me and slides between my back and the couch...which I must add, that this is where she currently is right now. She isn't scared, but it is her favorite place. I am guessing because it is a small, somewhat dark place, like a den would be but her head is always sticking half a foot out from behind me, and the rest of the body is not. Does anyone else's husky do this?

That's so funny.... Shaqua loved car rides since she was a puppy. She was like a baby: It rocked her to sleep. When my friends who have recently had kids (I have a dog, I think she's better than a baby but to each their own) need to quiet down their kids they go for a drive around the block. I wonder if it's the seat belt? The first few times Shaqua was in the car with me I was in the passenger seat with her in my lap. I wonder if that would help her get used to it?

I can agree that I think it is the seatbelt. But up where I live, if a dog is in your lap, you can get a ticket. I don't know what else to do, besides spend money on a traveling crate, but those are expensive and she will grow out of it quickly

I kept a couple jackets of mine in the back seat for Storm to sit on, dunno if it help or not but he doesn't even attempt to come into the front seat anymore, even if I am not in the car with him(I.E. if I jump out to grab my mail, he doesn't try and move up front). I kept him in a travel crate till he was 6 months old tho..........he hated that.

Have you tried giving her like a kong or something to chew on while back there? I do that for Karli and she loves it. We had a 7 hour drive the night we got her, so I laid in the back with her and a blanket (that smelled like her mother) and she did really good. She loves car rides now. I think lots of treats and making it a positive experience should help!

I have tried a kong, and other toys, and she completely ignores them. I will have to keep trying, and keep up the treats. Thanks for the advice everyone!
