| okay that's an exaggeration but i need some wisdom here because Kiba's driving me batty. The problem: let her out in the morning to do #1 and #2, and usually re-kennel her (with food and water) becuase its 5:30 am and i dont have to be up until 7. From 5:30 to 7 she will do this horrible high pitched puppy yips until i get back up and let her out for the day. I re-kennel her because im afraid (with good reason) she will get destructive if unsupervised or hurt herself and i need just a little more sleep. Is there a way to stop her from barking non-stop in the morning until she gets her way? If it helps to know, her crate has a ton of toys and she gets a 3 to 4 mile walk daily in the evening so i dont think its b/c of a lack of exercise. Also on weekends i will let her out like normal and sleep until about 8:30 and she will literally bark for hours until she hears me get up to let her out again. DRIVES ME BANANAS!

| To be honest, I haven't really dealt with this specifically, because I actually have to get up at 5. But the magic combo for a quiet Dizzy is a fan blowing on him and a towel mostly covering the crate (except for the fan). If I have this setup, its pretty much guaranteed he'll be quiet. He doesn't really care about toys, or stuff to chew on when he's in there, unless its a really special treat like a pig ear. He just wants a stuffed animal to lay his head on. |

| well i know she's not uncomfortable. she has a brand new bed the size of the crate pan, toys, food and water. I think she's barking just to say "Hey! Hey let me outta here! Im awake!" lol
i dont know what in the world can get her to stop. on a night (like i just had) where i was up late and exhausted and i just want a tiny little bit more sleep in the morning its frustrating becuase instead of sleeping i just lay there hearing her bark for an hour. |

| You can maybe give her a kong or bully or something like that. But i have the same exact setup as jen. Sometimes he will whine a little but usually he will stop. If he doesnt after a few min then i just got lay on the couch for a little in the other room |

| She might not like the bedding because it majes her feel hot. Where does she nap during the day? I noticed Anya really prefers the hardwood floor to sprawl out on. she always kicks her baby blanket out of her way when shes in the crate and like Dizzy, only wants a stuffed animal to rest her head on.
Definitely try Jens suggestion with the blanker over her crate with a fan blowing nearby. She might be hot or she simply needs her crate to be more den like. |

| i can definitely try the blanket with the fan- i like that idea. the bedding is new so i know its not the source of her barking. shes been doing this barking thing for a while now and we just bought the bed 3 days ago. it didnt seem to help or hurt the barking but its stayed the same. im gonna dig out my fan first thing when i get home today |

| Hm, okay. Dizzy is not uncomfortable without the fan either, he just likes his fan. I don't know, maybe its the noise, or he just likes a breeze, but he whines/barks without it. The towel helps because it keeps it dark in his crate. You may already be doing this, but could you treat the 5 am potty break like you would have a middle of the night potty break when you were first house breaking her? Would you have fed her and left water and toys out then? Or just straight out, and straight back in, lights out? Also, if you're up late, maybe keep her up late. On Thursday night last week, I was up until about 2 am and just kept Dizzy awake with me. We got up at the usual 5 am on Friday, he slept all day, then we were up until about 10 pm. But Saturday morning, we slept in until 7! 9 glorious hours of sleep! The first time I'd slept over 6 hours in a month! Praise the Lord! Lol. |

| so you think the toys, food/water make it worse? i just assumed that if she had all of those things then she would have stuff to occupy her while i go back to bed. we dont have play time when i let her out to use the bathroom, it is straight out and back in. no nonsense. but yeah i just leave the stuff in there so she wont be bored.
i think the blanket thing might be good too b/c now that im thinking about it there's a window in that room and as soon as its light out she might be thinking that its time to get up |

| Its possible, but I'm not sure. I just know Dizzy won't play alone in his crate anyway so I don't bother. They could be overstimulating her and she's thinking, 'why won't my person come play with me?' I do leave his antler in there sometimes in case he wants to chew, but mostly if he's in his crate he eventually falls asleep after 10-15 min. It might be good for her to get bored, because she might just give up and go to sleep. The few times I left toys for him this is how it went:
look around, bite toy, cry, bark, howl, frustrated howl, shake toy, chew something, turn around in a circle, dig at door, frustrated husky noises, flop, sigh, look at ceiling, bark, jump around in crate while barking, bite other toy, make more noise, flop down, big sigh, look at the ceiling, bark/howl/ whine, etc. Its like having the toys around is almost a tease, like its play time, but not. I'm not sure if that makes sense.
If I don't leave toys, he makes frustrated husky noises for about 3-5 min, lays down, gives me sad husky eyes, sighs and falls asleep. |

| My girl does the same thing because she doesn't like being alone. I take her out in the early morning to do her business then if I want to go back to bed (usually only on weekends I can) the only way she won't walk around howling/crying is if I put her in my bed. I know you said you kennel your pup so I am not sure if that would work for you but figured I would throw it out there! I plop her in my bed with a bully stick/antler if she is really bad and go back to sleep for an hour or 2 Hope something works out for you! |

| haha- if it was just me i totally would. my husband has a "no dog on the bed" rule though lol. i believe the true reason she does it is because she hears movement, knows we are awake and wants to be out with us so that would probably solve the barking at least but i know i can't put it to the test. i do appreciate all the input. ive been brainstorming all day trying to figure out what would be a good solution for both puppy and people
it is a frustrating little issue for sure! |

| Maybe you could take her bed into your room and put it on the floor and give her something to chew on. That might at least keep her quiet. Maybe... Lol. Never can tell with the little monsters. |

| I've noticed with Link that having constant access to anything makes him completely bored an uninterested in it. Making the toys more scarce will spark his renewed interest in it. We experimented with them in his crate by positioning them a certain way and they never move.
He too sleeps with a fan on always.
I posted a similar thread a while back and here's the formula that worked for us after advice from various folks:
-wake at 6-6:30 to pee/poop -back inside to eat his am meal. - he then lies down on his beanbag - back in his crate by 7 with a sweet potato chew and he then sleeps til 8:30-9:30 -very little to no interaction or excitement from me the whole time other than during feeding (which I engage with him during and pet him while he eats)
Good luck. The extra 1.5-2 hours of sleep made a world of difference for us. |

| i am glad that you were able to find something that worked. i suppose it may be similar for us- just finidng a combination of things . but this has given me some options to try. i think the fan will come out regardless of if it stops barking or not b/c i feel like that room needs more air circulation anyways. but hey, if it works then its a double win. never given her a potatoe before...i had no idea that could be a "treat" for them lol. ive given carrots and some other things but thats a new one! |

| Yay!!!! Awsome! Hopefully this fixs it.. Last nite koda was a little whiney last night. So i slept on the couch half the night. Its funny though cause if he is having a bad night, and i go to the couch, as soon as a leave the room he doesnt make a sound for the rest of the night. Lol. |

What type of fan are you using? I think my husky would like that as well, but am having a tough time deciding what type of fan to get. Thanks and glad it's working! |

| I have one similar to this: http://www.amazon.com/Westpointe-Electrical-Velocity-1002-Personal/dp/B000WEIJ7K/ref=sr_1_2?s=home-garden&ie=UTF8&qid=1370451727&sr=1-2&keywords=small+fan, and also a box fan. He loves both. If the air is moving, he's happy. |

| I have no idea what the brand is. to be honest its just a smaller one i got at Target for my desk but ive had it for 3 years or so and hadn't used it so dug it up and set it up in the room with her crate. its not oscillating and its pretty quiet. i just put it far enough away that it wouldnt be blowing right in her face and irritating her but so she could hear and feel it. Ill probably keep it there because covering most of her crate (except the front) with a blanket seems like it could get warm in there. |
