I just noticed that our six-month old pup sometimes walks on his back pads but not his toe pads (they aren't even touching the ground--they are turned up so you can see his toe pads from the front). When he walks, it sometimes seems to be a rolling motion--at first he puts all pads down and then rocks his feet back a bit and his toes turn up. It is so strange. He does not seem in pain, but I am concerned, and until I can take in to the vet this week, I just wanted to see if anyone has seen this with a young husky?

I will try to get a video next time he does it, but I've only seen him do it twice (the first time was a week ago). I'm not sure if it's related to tiredness as both times I've noticed it have been after activity. The first time was after the dog park, and the second time, yesterday, we walked around town with both dogs. It's just so odd that it makes me worry--and it can't be good for him to not walk on his pads. Of course, looking online and seeing things for DM pop up is scary (although it looks that that symptom is the other way, with the toes curled under). So, who knows. But, as soon as he does it again, I'll try and post it!

Okay, here are some videos, sorry they are not the best quality--I took them with my phone right after a walk. We went to the vet last week, and the vet has no idea what it is, other than it isn't "normal." I asked about Degenerative Myleopathy, but the vet said that seeing as he shows the symptom after exercise that it probably isn't that, but now, Kiba seems to be doing it more often. The vet said to keep an eye on him, and if he starts to show other symptoms (legs start to weaken I guess?) to come back? The visit was not helpful at all. Waste of $50. Seeing as our pup is only 6 mnths old, I'm wondering if it's a genetic defect or what?!

I don't know about huskies but I did have a basset hound when I was a kid and when he would get exercised he would kind of walk funny and it turned out it was a bone defect the vet just prescribed him a mild painkiller to take everyday and he lived a normal life

You could ask the breeder if there is a problem in the line? Sometimes weird things just happen. My Balon is missing a premolar adult tooth, his parents and rest of litter all had all teeth, no where back in line can they find another relative with this tooth or any tooth missing? Yet these "missing" teeth are hereditary.

Back to your problem, It's kinda hard to see in the video, but I do see something that doesn't look quite right. I would probably see another doctor, perhaps an orthopedic one.

My oldest boy do that same exact thing. I had xrays done at the vet clinic where I work at and at another clinic. Nothing showed up out of the normal. I also contacted the breeder where I purchased him from and his granddad do the same thing after a long day doing competitions. So I contacted a k9 behaviorist and was told that it could be from his pedigree or just him mimicking me when I rock on my heels so to just monitor it for any pain or changes and notify my vet if any.

Thank you all for your responses. I will take him to an orthopedic vet at some point, but for right now he isn't in any pain--and seems pretty happy even though it looks really funky.

I'm going to call the breeder and see if she's noticed anything and to let her know that his feet are "abnormal." We'll keep a close eye on him. If I find anything out, I'll keep this thread updated.

Interesting. Never seen anything like it... sounds like all good advice though.

Is it the hips or the feet? When I looked at it I noticed the whole leg was moving oddly.

Im working off a nook so the vids get a little weird but i have to agree with super nova it looks like the left rear leg is stiff and not quite moving properly. I had a dog with arthritis in her back legs and after running around the yard she would walk kinda strange we would give her a rub down on her hind quarters, legs, hips, down to her pads basically and she was usually fine.
