Diarrhea...please help Empty
PostSubject: Diarrhea...please help   Diarrhea...please help EmptyThu May 23, 2013 4:14 pm

Hi, my dog had diarrhea a day ago - watery stool a few times but now he is getting better. No more diarrhea...started to eat again. But seems he doesn't want to drink. I mixed the food with the water. He ate, and then drank pretty good amount of the water the same time. But other than that, he does not go to drink at all. Any thoughts?

I think we need some more information. How old is he? What are you feeding him. Is he peeing normally? When did he last go to the vet? What is the climate like where you are, hot/cold? Could he have gotten into something that would cause the diarrhea?

Tiger is 1-year old. I feed Blue Buffalo Salmon. He has been doing okay with that. He pees normally. The last time he saw the vet was 2 months before for the vaccine. We are in Alberta, Canada. These days It is around 10 - 15 degree C here (rainy) - about 50 - 59 F...

From my observation, the causes may be either he at some grass in the park (he sometimes do) or he ate some pork a few days ago (a little amount, he stole it from our dinner on the table)

Is his energy level normal? If so, it sounds like something he picked up along the way somewhere and I wouldn't worry too much about it. If he's eating and peeing and pooping normally he's probably okay. I would just keep your eye on him and take him to the vet if anything changes. He has to be getting water somewhere, maybe he's drinking out of puddles when he's outside, which could also have caused the diarrhea if he picked up an infection.

If you're mixing water with his food then I would say that's where he's getting his water intake from. Any particular reason why you do this?

I think they were putting water in the good to make sure the dog got water in some form or another.

If the energy level is the same and the dog is eliminating normally, I wouldn't worry. If he starts to get lethargic, I'd take him to the vet right away.

If you are worried I would take him to the vet but it doesn't sound like anything too serious to me. Are you sure he isn't getting any other sources of water intake (toilet bowl, puddles, pool outside etc.) this could be why he is not drinking as much.

yes definately take your pup to the vet just to make sure its nothing serious. My puppy gets diarrhea every once in a while...most of the time it has just been a case of an upset puppy sensitive tummy. Canned pumpkin (not pie filling or raw pumpkin) does a really good job.

Thanks everyone. He is doing pretty fine now. No diarrhea....eat normally, pees well. But he still doesn't like to drink. He drinks when he is eating (I still mix the food with the water). And he drinks well that way. Other than that, he doesn't drink. Do you know why? I still can't figure it out

One of my dogs barely drinks any water too and she's perfectly fine. I've never seen anything like it before, but as long as it isn't affecting their health I wouldn't worry about it. My non-drinker has been like that since we got her over 3 years ago.
