Hey everyone I have a 7 month old husky who has recently been biting and pulling the hair near his hindquarters and I'm very worried about this. I took him to the vet Monday 5/13 and got his anal glands expressed. He is on flee and tick prevention trifexis so the vet ruled those both out. Other than that I'm lost, I have no idea what it is or what it can be. Any help would be much appreciated thanks

It could be an allergy. He could be allergic to the food he is on now or something in the enviroment

Airborne seasonal allergies (pollens, molds, dusts, etc.) are the most common component in itchy dogs. Shaking the head, licking the paws, itchy flanks and itchy butts (under tail), are all signs of airborne allergies.

Flea allergies present themselves at the base of the tail. Even though your dog is on a flea preventative, they still need to bite your dog to die. One flea bite a month, in flea allergic dogs, can trigger an allergic reaction that can last for weeks. What I would recommend is spraying your environment with an IGR (insect growth regulator). I use a product called Nylar; it you have a pest service, they know it as Archer. It is non-toxic, safe for indoor use and safe to use around pets and children. You only need to spray areas that are shaded, where your dogs likes to hang out, and where possible stray cats can hide.

Food allergies take up less than 10% of allergic dogs. I would rule out the above two before thinking about doing a food trial.

This is how my parent's dog is. She's on a flea preventative, but if a flea bites her, she'll bite her tail raw. We thought it was an anxiety thing for a long time until we switched vets.

There is also a new flea preventative out called Activyl. My vet uses and it kills on contact so the fleas do not have to bite them to actually die. He deals with a lot of allergies, food, flea, grass, hay and other allergies and has seen an amazing progress with Activyl. Just a thought!!
My Dalmatian has major allergies and Activyl is perfect for her.

Bourbon just started bite and pulling fur on his tail tip and tail middle we hope it is him pulling out the "blow". We r watching to see if it happens again. Note trifexis is not tick effective
