Husky digging through a door Empty
PostSubject: Husky digging through a door   Husky digging through a door EmptyFri May 17, 2013 12:16 am

So I have an 11 month female husky and she's suddenly been developing separation anxiety issues. She has her own room that she plays around in when I'm not home but lately she's been trying to dig through the door. Its a wooden door and she's basically destroyed it. Does anyone have any ideas on how to fix her separation anxiety? The weird thing is that she doesn't go all crazy when I get home like I keep hearing people say. She's actually perfectly calm when I open the door.

Two of my huskies do the same thing. I have to put them in a kennel when I leave for work. One of them got to the point where he will break out of the kennel so I will take him to work with me until I brought another kennel that he will not break out of and he won't himself trying to get out. You can try a thunder shirt. Or a separation anxiety coller.

How much exercise is she getting throughout the day? Sounds to me like you may have a bored husky on your hands.

Orion does this as well when I put him to bed at night - he sleeps in the laundry. I thought it was an aversion to being shut in at first but then I realised that if I walk him when I get home from work he has a nap during the evening then is wide awake again at bed time so digs and howls because he is bored. Now I walk him late after tea then come home have some play time, a quick brush and off to bed straight away and he just goes to sleep, although he will still do it in the morning about 10 mins after my alarm goes off if I'm not up yet - just to let me know he's awake and waiting for morning walkies Smile
If your girl is getting plenty of exercise then maybe try rescue remedy to calm her? We had the footpath outside our house dug up recently and the sound of cutting concrete terrified Orion he worked himself into a frenzy over it, I gave him some rescue remedy and it worked wonders Smile
