Possible UTI or just being dominant? Empty
PostSubject: Possible UTI or just being dominant?   Possible UTI or just being dominant? EmptyWed May 15, 2013 12:41 am

This is my first purebred dog and she is 4 months, I had a trainer come by the house once a week to help me with obedience training for Mya. He noticed that she pees a lot when we walk her together (like 5 times in 30 mins.). He told me I should take her to the vet but I mentioned it to the vet a week ago when I took her for shots and he said it's probably her marking her territory. I didn't think puppies that young thought about that, but maybe they do. Has anyone else had this problem with their husky puppy? Also, a month ago when I noticed this, I did take her to the vet to get tested for a UTI and she didn't have one and she does not have water sitting out all the time for her to drink constantly.

I'd take another fresh sample to your vet and have them do another urinalysis and possibly a culture. I'd completely rule out an infection first before moving onto behavior modification training.

I have to tell you - my little girl does the same thing. She's now almost six, but has done it since she was a puppy. When we go on walks, she marks a lot - about 4-5 times in the first 30 minutes of a walk. When we go on a longer walk, she usually is bored with marking after the first 30 minutes and stops marking. I think you should get her tested again, but if it comes back negative, you probably will do the same thing I will do when we are walking. "Kisa! You're not a boy! Stop marking!" Ha ha! They make our lives very entertaining, don't they?!

I am getting her tested again. The other day she had to go so bad she went in the middle of the road after she had already gone 3 times in 15 mins. I don't think it's marking anymore, it has to be a UTI or something.

It'll be okay, at least you have an answer now. Now you can start to treat her and now you know what to expect if this happens again (which it may). My Lhasa Kloe had a lot of battles with UTI's and she had to try three different medicines before it FINALLY cleared up. Just keep a close eye on her and don't be afraid to take her back if you don't think the medicine is working.

Well the vet said they want to put her on some food for the crystals which I wasn't too happy about. She has changed food several times since I've gotten her because of her sensitive stomach and if I keep changing her, her diarrhea will never clear up!

Food, really?? Not that I know a lot about vetting, but all my vets have ever done for a UTI is a prescription pill that she took for 14 days?? Don't quote me on that, but I'm 90% sure that's what it was. Is she on a prescription as well? What food are they wanting to put her on?

The special food will make her urine more acidic and help dissolve the crystals in conjunction with the antibiotics. Did they recommend C/D by Hills or do they carry Royal Canin?

Yea, the food is for her crystals and she is getting antibiotics for the UTI.
