Forum Rules
1. Here we prefer clarity to agreement. Obviously not everyone is going to agree on a topic; here we prefer to talk out our differences in a respectful manner to ensure mutual understanding and respect.
2. Read the Stickies and Announcements. Each sub-forum may have specific rules which trump the Forum Rules in cases where there may be conflicting information. Read the rules of each board before you post so that you are clear on the expectations of the staff.
3. Respect ALL Staff and Admins. These people volunteer of their time and MUST be respected as well as their word adhered to. They are responsible for maintaining a free, open, clear and organized forum. Anyone found to be openly undermining any official ruling by a staff member will be warned.
4. Signatures: One picture only and no links. Images: To keep the forum looking neat and tidy, we ask that members insert just one picture only in their signatures. The picture should be no more than 200x500 pixels and should be of an appropriate subject, for example, your dogs and their names. Should you need assistance creating an appropriate signature, please PM an Admin and we would be happy to help! This is to ensure that signatures remain a welcome addition to our forum instead of a cumbersome distraction. Links: Hyperlinks in signatures--unless to a personal blog or photo stream of your dogs (like Flckr or Piscasa, for example)--are strictly prohibited. Please PM a staff member with any questions or concerns regarding this rule.

FWIW, Jeff - My dog from a breeder has been thousands cheaper than my rescue. So, I don't think anyone looks at is as privileged or like we enjoy spending copious amounts of money.

I totally get that Megan. I don't deny or contest that personally. But on a larger, more cultural level bigger than individual anecdotes there is some truth yo what I've suggested. Not my views or ideas that I condone, but they're out there.

Can you provide some proof. Please don't imply that things I say are anecdotal. It sounds condescending,

Nope, no proof. Only rational facts can be proven.

I'm talking about a general social trend based on observation, analysis, and hearsay. When that is combatted with a personal example on an individual level, that is an anecdote. If pointing that out respectfully is condescending, then I accept. There's nothing wrong with anecdotes. They just bring something that wasn't personal down to the personal.

On that note, I bow out Smile

I know what an anecdote is - I was stating that on my personal observation, analysis and hearsay it has nothing to do with my ability to purchase as to why people dislike that i own a dog from a breeder. It's because they don't agree with breeding, not because I can buy it.

What are you two even arguing over? Lol.

Honestly, you may not have experienced it, Megan, but I would argue thatperspective is out there.

While I don't disagree with you, it does matter from a semantic point of view in the larger issue of the unfortunate polarity of breeder vs. rescue. This contrast comes into play especially when somebody wants to acquire a dog: where do you go, breeder vs. rescue??

This is how it often plays out and the create a life vs. save a life rhetoric gets thrown around.

I don't think people with mixes talk about breeders nearly as much as people with pure breds.

Personally I would agree that the term "breeder" goes far beyond breeders of purebred dogs. There are far too many people now breeding designer dogs to exclude them from the mix. Heavens many of those mixed breeds sell for as much if not more than a purebred dog. I agree as well that any irresponsible pet owner who ends up with a litter on the ground is also a "breeder." Then you also have to consider the responsible, ethical breeder who ends up with an opps litter of some sort. The obvious answer to those with the snotty attitudes from either side is to simply point out that their pet also came from a "breeder," regardless of how they aquired it, so perhaps they should get over it.
