ok so i have always wanted a husky and now i have moved into my first house. I got out of the Marines and moved out to TN to take a job offer driving a tow truck. So i got a husky yesterday, beautiful dog but i am not sure if he is full breed or not, looks like a lil german shepard maybe. Anyways, i am new to this whole thing and havent had a dog in quite some time. My boss trained his dog extremly well and he wanted me to put Donte, yes Donte, out in the office which is an unfinished addition to the house, just needs a little sheet rock done to finish it off for the time being. So i did and i went to sleep, I head him moving around a bit but didint sound like he was messing anything up and destroying stuff. Inside when i am on the computer or something he goes for my couch pillows, also he has peed once in the house just a little bit on the corner of the couch. Nothing else since, Can someone gimme some pointers on how to make sure he doesent destroy anything cause i have seen video and pics of huskys getting bored and tearing the house apart, I cant have that. I dont have a lot of nice things but this is everything I have in life and I am not in a finincial place to spend any money buying things i already have due to them being destroyed. I a, going to attempt to give him a bath tonight and wish that i had a detachable shower head but i dont so this should be really intresting. i will try and get some pics up here in a min,[img][/img]

a husky pup alone in the house with out training will be very distructive if it gets bored like most other breeds of young dogs.

I have one big rules with my 6 month old dogs, if i cant keep my eyes on you, your in your kennels.

So i say kennel train donte make him love his kennel that way you dont have to worry about him tearing things up when your working

I would definitely suggest crate/kennel training as well. From the time we brought Kairi home at 8 weeks she has had to stay in her crate during the day when we are at work or anytime we are not home and able to supervise her. My husband would come and let her out a few times during the day to potty and now that she is a little over one he comes home for lunch and everything is just fine. It was a little rough at first getting her used to the crate but now she goes in without any problems and I'm pretty sure she sleeps most of the time when we are not here. I don't even think I would trust her now at a year and a half loose to not get into some type of husky mischief. I know crates/kennels may seem cruel but especially early on when they are first getting used to rules, you, and your home, it is the safest place for them. Everything will get better/easier as your puppy gets older and it's all worth it. Good luck

yea thats what i wanna do to. I need to find a crate on payday, spent a lot of money getting things set for him so i am a little low on cash, untill then i am using that office addition as my crate lol. Now i used to own a lot of pitts and i know they tore their crate to little pieces lol, usually they have that plastic tray, easy to eat, should i take that out? I was gonna lay some old towells down for comfort but I am kinda thinking that he may eat them lol.

You will kind of have to see what works best for you and your dog. Kairi has never tried to tear apart her crate or plastic tray. We definitely left that in there because she did have a few accidents early on and it was easy to take out, rinse off, spray and dry off. We got hers on amazon for about 40 dollars which was a lot cheaper than what I could find in the stores around here. Anything we put in kairi's crate (old towels, blankets, clothes that smelled like us) she would actually use to cover up any accidents she had. She is really innovative and sneaky. It wasn't until we started removing everything from her crate that she was really able to learn to hold it because she had incentive to I guess. The clothes with our sent on them did help with the separation anxiety she had at first although it just needed to be something that we were ok with having to replace.

Our rescue Kaya, however, came to us at around 1 and 1/2 the vet says and we do leave a blanket, an old pillow, and a fer toys in her crate while we are gone. She has never tried to eat or destroy the plastic tray either but she did manage to escape once but has not since.

So it really depends on your puppy and your preferences. I would not put anything in there starting out that you wouldn't be ok parting with and I would recommend leaving the tray in just for convenience and to see how your puppy does. Neither of my girls like dog beds either, they tear them apart like it is a game, but you could try one of those although they tend to be expensive sometimes. I've found for Kaya an old pillow covered with a blanket works just as well and she doesn't try to destroy it like she does dog beds...strange I know.

I would say no PLASTIC! crate or otherwise.....lots of toys. Kongs are a great time consumer little bit of peanut butter and a cookie stuffed in there . Also i would buy a crate big enough to hold a full grown husky (saves a little $ in the long run) lots of walks and play time. A crate is the safest and cheapest way to save your house and any expenses, and the health of your husky if he happens to eat anything it can be a very costly trip to the vets. how old is your pup?

much destruction comes from very easy things to avoid: two main ones being teaching them boundaries and keeping them away from your things while providing them with ample amounts of various things of their own that they can chew and tear up. The other would be exercise. Physical and mental stimulation is imperative to properly drain your pup's energy. A tired puppy is a happy puppy right?

Depending on age you will have certain limitations to what you can do but any puppy can have some sort of exercise and physical stimulation to drain their energy. It all depends on intensity, longevity, and surface type (if walking or playing or zooming around).

Training of any kind is very tiring for a dog and will also build trust and respect for you in the mean time. You can do some easy, fun ones involving their nose (a primal way of being for a dog of course) and hiding treats or playing "find it" or playing "which hand".......and on and on.

Stimulation is what they need in any way they can get it. Huskies especially get bored and very unimpressed with people who don't stimulate them and keep them active.

If you are gonna start crate training....always good.....these exercises will be a key part too because you won't be able to just put your pup in the crate and then life is good. More often than not they should go in tired and stimulated and then they can learn to associate their crate with peace of mind and relaxation and fulfillment.
